Today, two key members of the Maryland ACEP Executive Board — Dr. Kerry Forrestal and Dr. Suzanna Martin — testified before the Maryland Senate Finance Committee on SB 506: Health Occupations – Pharmacists – Minor Conditions and HIV Prevention and Treatment, sponsored by Lewis Young.

📍 Status: Hearing held February 17 at 1:00 p.m.

What the bill does?

SB 506 would:
-Authorize pharmacists, under certain circumstances, to prescribe, administer, and dispense certain medications and devices
-Allow pharmacists to perform and interpret certain laboratory tests
-Repeal provisions establishing the Nonoccupational Postexposure -Prophylaxis (nPEP) Standing Order Program

As always, Maryland ACEP leadership is actively engaged to ensure that any expansion of scope or changes to care delivery protect patient safety, maintain high standards of emergency care, and support emergency physicians across the state.

We are grateful for their time, expertise, and strong advocacy on behalf of emergency physicians and the patients we serve.
