This week, we shine the Staff Spotlight on counselor Jeff Thompson!

Joining Complete Wellness in January of 2023, Jeff Thompson employs an eclectic approach to psychotherapy that utilizes techniques from CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) to assist patients in tackling life’s obstacles. Through a patient-first, collaborative approach, Jeff encourages self-compassion and reflection to aid patients in finding creative ways of solving their problems.

An avid gamer, Jeff is pursuing the study of “geek-certified therapy,” an unconventional approach that weaves elements of geek and gamer culture into psychotherapy, to further develop his practice. Ultimately, he aims to create a safe and non-judgmental space where one can express themselves freely. As somewhat of a free spirit himself, Jeff once went volcano boarding, or sledding down an active volcano, in Nicaragua as pictured. Thank you for being a vital part of the CW team, Jeff!

This month, we celebrate love, identity, and the courageous individuals who have shaped both our world and our understanding of the human mind.

One such trailblazer is Dr. Evelyn Ho**er, a psychologist whose groundbreaking research in the 1950s challenged the classification of homosexuality as a mental illness. Her work helped pave the way for a more compassionate, science-based understanding of sexual orientation—and ultimately, the declassification of homosexuality from the DSM in 1973.

Dr. Ho**er was not only an ally but a pioneer whose research upheld the dignity and humanity of LGBTQ+ individuals during a time of intense stigma. Her legacy lives on in every step we take toward inclusive, affirming mental health care.
