Exciting updates from our resident CFT expert, Courtney Katzenberg!
A message from Courtney:
This fall, I had the joy of attending the 14th Annual Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) Conference in Birmingham, England—a gathering of clinicians, researchers, and practitioners from around the world who are passionate about understanding and cultivating compassion. It was both grounding and energizing to connect with others who share a belief that compassion isn’t a luxury—it’s a powerful way to regulate our nervous systems, soften self-criticism, and strengthen connection.
I kicked off the conference attending a full day workshop with Dr. Dan Siegel. His reflections on integration and connection deepened my appreciation for how compassion, attention, and presence literally shape our brains and relationships.
One of the true highlights was getting to say hello to Professor Paul Gilbert, the developer of Compassion Focused Therapy. To experience his warmth, generosity, and knowledge of the science of compassion in person was an experience I will not forget.
I returned to Baltimore feeling deeply renewed—reminded that compassion is courage in action. The insights and practices I gathered are already finding their way into sessions with individuals and couples here at be.
If you’re curious about how Compassion Focused Therapy can help you quiet the inner critic and build emotional balance, I’d love to share more. Additionally, if you are a clinician that is interested in learning how CFT can complement your current work, I would love to connect on that, too.
