Top 10 Reasons to Appreciate the Snow

(Because I need the reminder today.)

1. The earth gets a quiet blanket after a long winter.

2. Everything slows down just enough for us to breathe.

3. Snow turns the ordinary world into something a little magical.

4. The hush after fresh snowfall is one of nature’s most peaceful sounds.

5. It reminds us that beauty doesn’t always have to be convenient.

6. The light reflecting off the snow makes even gray days brighter.

7. Kids still find snowflakes and snowballs completely magical.

8. It makes the first warm spring day feel even more like a gift.

9. Sometimes the world needs a soft reset.

10. Even the longest winter eventually melts into spring.

We were lucky enough to get a couple absolutely beautiful spring teaser days recently. A reminder that the sunshine is still there… even when today looks like this.

So today I’m choosing to appreciate the snow. (Ask me again tomorrow.)

What’s something YOU appreciate about a snowy day?

As is my custom, I like to pause for a moment after the final shift of the year. For me, 2025 has seen its last “click or pop.” But before I flip the lights off, I think it’s important to really take in what this work means to me.

As always, I’m filled with a familiar sense of gratitude for the people who fill my practice each day. That trust is never lost on me—even after all these years, it remains one of the most valued accomplishments of my life.

This year also held loss for me. I never shared publicly about the passing of sweet Olivia. Instead, I chose to keep those moments intimate within the space of these walls—but she is very much on my mind today.

Olivia was someone who believed deeply in connection, the power of conversation, and the possibility of bridging understanding across differences. She wanted to be a diplomat, and she lived like one.

In the short time that I was blessed to know her, we shared so much. We didn’t always agree on every topic, but we always listened with interest and curiosity about each other’s perspectives. We respected one another and embraced a shared love of people. Her mere being reminded me, constantly, to stay present for the moment in front of me. To say that I am deeply grateful for her is an understatement.

With that lesson in mind, it is no surprise that as I was thinking about this post earlier, a moment struck me as I looked at the people in my waiting room.

In this space sat people who might never share a table, a belief system, or a vote—but who all share a body, a nervous system, and a desire to feel safe, seen, and well. Different stories. Different identities. Different worldviews. One room. One moment.

It reminded me that beneath all the labels we carry, we are remarkably similar. We all want to belong. We all want to be respected. We all want to be cared for with dignity.

This isn’t a post about politics; it’s a post about humanity. As the year closes, I find myself holding gratitude, grief, and hope all at once.

So this is the wish I carry forward into the new year— May the year to come meet us all with moments of connection, dignity, and care—for ourselves and for one another.

Thank you, from all the corners of my heart, for being part of this space. Happy New Year to you and yours and I’ll see you next year. 🙏🏻

❄️ Weather Update ❄️

Thrive will be closed on Monday, January 6th, due to inclement weather. We will reopen for our new hours on Wednesday at 9:30 AM. Select Saturday hours start this week!

⛄️Shoveling? Here Are Some Important Tips

1️⃣ Start Early: Shovel while the snow is light to avoid heavy piles.
2️⃣ Warm Up First: Stretch to loosen muscles before starting.
3️⃣ Switch Hands: Alternate sides while shoveling to maintain balance and avoid overusing one side.
4️⃣ Use Proper Technique: Push the snow rather than lifting it. If you must lift, bend your knees—not your back!
5️⃣ Take Breaks: Rest frequently to avoid strain.
6️⃣ Stay Hydrated: Shoveling can be strenuous—drink water before, during, and after to keep your body fueled.

Stay safe, stay balanced, and we’ll see you soon!

Happy 2024! 🎉

If you’ve been following along, you may know that on the last shift of the year, I spend a little extra time in the office after the day is done. I use this time to wrap things up for the year and prepare for the New Year with a fresh, clean start. ✨

It’s become a particularly powerful ritual for me, and for the first time, this day also landed on the literal last day of the year. Instead of a week off, I’ll be back to serve again tomorrow after squeezing in some final holiday family time today. 👍🏻

On this New Year’s Day, I just wanted to share that I remain profoundly grateful for the “work” that I get to do. I’ve said it before: being a chiropractor is as ingrained in who I am as being a mother. It’s deep in there, and it’s an immense privilege to receive the trust you place in me when you lay on my table. Thank you. 🙏🏻

Heading into 2025 (wow!), Thrive will celebrate 10 years (double wow!!). It feels like yesterday I was just a baby chiropractor with an infant and toddler in tow as I opened my doors. Time flies, and with that, their wings begin to spread—allowing me to make a few shifts in the coming year that I hope you’ll be excited about! 💥

Starting next week, my hours are shifting just a bit to allow me to finally offer something long asked for: Saturdays. I’ll be open from 10-12 for existing patients on select Saturdays. If you love it, I may add more. 💯

With that news, dear friends, my coffee is getting cold, and the family is stirring. I’ll leave you with wishes for a healthy 2025, my eternal gratitude and these sweet reminders I came across last night. ☕️

Happy New Year!

Yesterday, I had the great opportunity to attend Gil Hedley’s acclaimed Nerve Tour. Attending with two of my favorite friends and colleagues was just the cherry on the sundae.

I admit I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect from the tour. You may have, as I have, seen Gil’s viral video on The Fuzz (aka fascia) from over a decade ago. So, antics and anatomy were assumed, but I was also sensing some "woo" coming my way. Maybe it was the company I was keeping, or maybe it was my own experience in an anatomy lab. Either way, I was not disappointed.

Gil expertly, with wit and charm, provided a look at the human form as I had never seen it. His is a personal story that reveals many knowns but also manages to dispel some formerly held beliefs about the nature of the human body in such a way as to validate each of us in our uniqueness. From the tiniest, thread-like strands of cutaneous nerves to the intermingling of nerve plexuses, and of course the vagus among others, Gil guided us through a months-long dissection of an entire nervous system in five enthralling hours.

And it was so much more than that. He drew comparisons to natural structures, brought us into our own inner world through an embodied practice, and fundamentally exposed our connectedness not only within ourselves but to each other and the world we engage with through this incredible system.

This was not only a profound educational experience; it was a spiritual one as well. It confirmed for me what I felt a decade ago in chiropractic school… that the more I learn about science, the more certain I become about the divine.

He’s coming to a city near you. Check him out.
