Because stroke prevention education could save a life, we recently visited Ellen Leach Memorial Home in Brewer. Troy Bailey, provider relations liaison at Northern Light Home Care & Hospice, coordinated the event with Angela Wheelden, RN, manager of Northern Light Stroke Care at Eastern Maine Medical Center. Angela explained what stroke symptoms look like, what to do if someone was experiencing a stroke, and provided blood pressure checks.

Every three minutes, someone dies from a stroke, according to the CDC. Know the warning signs of a stroke by using the acronym FAST:

F - Face drooping
A - Arm Weakness
S - Speech difficulty
T - Time to call 911

The event will run from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at Husson University’s Gracie Theatre.

Organizers say this year’s theme, “Your Story Matters,” celebrates the strength and voice of every young person.

The day will feature a powerful keynote from Ivy Watts, a nationally recognized mental health advocate and speaker with Active Minds, who will inspire attendees with a message of resilience, connection, and hope.

Eating disorders can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, s*x, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status. That’s why it’s important to raise awareness and promote a message of recovery.

The Youth Mental Health Summit is back for another year. This summit was created by teens for teens.

If you have a teen who is interested in spending a day with other area teens who are interested in learning how to improve their mental health, this is for them. For parents who would like to attend with their teens, we have opened it up this year for parents, guardians, teachers, and counselors.
