It really does not take much to improve your overall health and well-being. Walking IS an effective form of exercise.

Even moderate amounts of exercise can help ward off depression.

Some scary s**t...

The information below was complied and published this month (April 2022). What the organization found is so incredibly dangerous. And to be clear, when you see "pro-eating disorder" this refers to accounts that encourage people do their eating disorder "better" (similarly some sites are referred to as "pro-ana" or "pro-mia" referring to sites that specifically encourage anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa respectively).

Why is that problematic? For one thing eating disorders are serious psychiatric diagnoses that affect EVERY system of the body (e.g., the brain tissue of those with anorexia nervosa shrinks). And two, eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of ANY psychiatric disorder. Kids as young as 9 years old consume content on these sites.

"Fairplay for Kids is an organization dedicated to fighting against marketing to youth. They have just released a report on Instagram and eating disorders content

● The pro-eating disorder bubble on Instagram includes 90,000 unique accounts and reaches 20 million unique followers on the platform. This could be one in 75 Instagram users who follow someone in this bubble.

● The bubble is young. This research found children as young as 9 and 10 following three or more eating disorder accounts, with a median age of 19. One third of Instagram’s pro-eating disorder bubble is underage, and they have over half a million followers.

● Meta derives an estimated $2 million revenue a year from this bubble and $227.9 million from all those who follow this bubble. This revenue includes that derived from underage users – Meta directly makes $0.5 million a year from the underage pro-eating disorder bubble and $62 million in revenue from the people who follow these underage pro-eating disorder accounts."

Yes - we often value and prioritize others' voices to the exclusion of our own...and to our exceptional detriment.
Listening to one's self can often be misinterpreted and is often believed to encourage selfishness...well, yes it is when you think of being selfish as giving a s**t about your own well-being. It is NOT about not giving a s**t about others. Not at all. But when we never/rarely listen to what we need and what we want, we tend to be discontent at best and miserable at worst.
Listen to yourself.
You will learn what and who you should have in your life because those people and those things add richness to your experiences (and you, in turn, can add richness to theirs'), and who and what to jettison because they take, and take, and take without taking into consideration what that is doing to you. Then they have the audacity to call you selfish when you stand up for yourself. So...who is selfish?

Turns out I'm not that good at keeping up with social media in general and when I do focus on sm I usually focus on one platform at a time! So...I've been on Twitter quite a bit and retweeting as much as I can on and other social/racial justice issues. Please check out these retweets (https://twitter.com/ChristineSelby). So much of the information is important to know. We have a long way to go in this country and white people have a LONG way to go to truly show the kind of solidarity POC have been waiting for...for decades!

I hope you are all staying safe, staying well, and looking out for one another as best as you can! ❤️
