We’re honored to share that the American Heart Association (AHA) and the American Medical Association (AMA) has awarded InterCare with the Target BP Silver Plus Award for 2025! The award is part of the Target BP initiative, which emphasizes the importance of controlling blood pressure and recognizes health care organizations that are committed to improving blood pressure control in their patients and to using evidence-based practices to do it. AHA community impact director Sarah Poole presented a plaque to InterCare staff earlier today. Pictured left to right are Vernetta Meeks, RN; Robin Golliday, Health Center Manager; Sarah Poole; Vernest Lacy, Care Coordinator; Shanel Kiser, RN; and Kathy Zolp, Senior Director of Quality and Clinical Support. Family nurse practitioner Cynthia Dah has joined our medical team in Eau Claire and is accepting new patients. She comes to us from Arizona, where she practiced at the Inscription House Health Center in the Navajo Nation. Cynthia earned her Doctorate of Nursing Practice – FNP-C from New Mexico State University. Earlier in her career she also worked for Corewell Health in St Joseph.

Salmonella, Clostridium perfringens, Campylobacter. Don’t invite these guys to your Thanksgiving table! It is important that you thaw, cook, and store your turkey safely. For example, thaw your turkey for about 24 hours for each 4-5 pounds (three days for a 15-pound bird). As families come together indoors for the holidays, it is easier for germs to spread. It’s flu season. If you haven’t yet, get your flu shot! The CDC recommends that everyone ages 6 months and order get the flu vaccine. Flu shots are available at all InterCare health centers, and at pharmacies and county health departments. WIC (the Women, Infants & Children program) provides healthy foods to kids up to five years old and pregnant women in Michigan families with low to moderate income. It also gives breastfeeding support and education. InterCare has WIC locations in nine communities in Ottawa, Allegan, Van Buren and Cass counties. Go to https://www.intercare.org/locations/intercare-wic-locations/ to find the right number for you to call to enroll today.

How does WIC work? Participants get an electronic card they use to buy WIC foods at the grocery store. Foods are selected to meet needs such as calcium, iron, folic acid and vitamins A and C.
