February is National Children’s Dental Health Month. Teach kids to brush their teeth twice a day. Also, limit sugary food and drinks and schedule regular check-ups. Good oral hygiene can prevent cavities, pain and infection, and protect healhty smiles.

Did you hear? Babies born on or after Jaunary 1, 2026 and expectant mothers who live in Benton Harbor, Buchanan, Niles and Benton Charter Township are eligible to apply for this new program. As we celebrate Black History Month, today we honor three accomplished doctors. Dr. Patricia Bath improved the treatment of cataracts by inventing the Laserphaco Probe. She became the first Black female doctor to receive a medical patent. Dr. Marilyn Hughes Gaston did pioneering research in sickle cell disease and became the first Black woman to direct a public health servcie bureau. Dr. Mae Jemison served as a medical officer in the Peace Corps and become the first Black woman in space.
