The disease of addiction is a very serious illness and left untreated, will impact every facet of the individual's and their loved ones lives. When individuals gain sobriety, it is important to have fun and socialize in supportive environments. A Clean Slate will be providing a safe, sober and supportive place for individuals to come and will also be hosting and promoting sober events in the community and at the center. Our drop in hours of operation are: Monday: 10-2pm Tuesday: 1pm-6pm Wednesday: 10am-6pm Thursday: 10am-5pm Friday: 10-5 pm Saturday: 10am- 2pm. We will be holding meetings and activities at other times than our drop in hours. Northampton County Drug and Alcohol in partnership with Recovery Revolution, Inc. will be opening a Recovery Center in the Slate Belt to benefit our local residents. Currently, there are similar centers in Easton and Bethlehem. The Northampton County Drug and Alcohol division is committed to supporting opportunities for residents of Northampton County in recovery as they commit to a lifelong process of change that permits them to make healthy choices and improve the quality of his or her life. "A Clean Slate" Recovery Center is located at 118 S. 1st Street in Downtown Bangor and our grand opening is set for Tuesday, September 16, 2014. A Clean Slate's mission is to provide recovery resources and referrals to the Slate Belt community. The Center welcomes all men, women, and teenagers who in anyway have been affected by the disease of addiction. The staff at a Clean Slate are knowledgeable about recovery and can assist people in finding treatment programs and/or services appropriate to their needs. A Clean Slate does not offer any counseling services and is not a treatment program. The Center has a variety of recovery and self-help material for individuals seeking help, family members seeking help or those that are in a recovery process to help sustain their own recovery. A Clean Slate will also be providing a computer lab and business resources for the recovering community to help with resume building, job searching, letter writing, attending an online 12-step meeting, completing medical assistance applications and other recovery-related services. A Clean Slate is not affiliated with any specific 12 step group such as Alcoholic Anonymous (AA), Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Gamblers Anonymous (GA), or Ala-Non, however these meetings may be held on site. In addition, we anticipate hosting artists, musicians, and collaborating with other organizations to provide information seminars on a variety of topics (such as nutrition, resume building, and money management).

Community Request for Thanksgiving Apartment fire:

On Thanksgiving Day, there was a fire on N 1st Street in Bangor. The tenants are currently displaced from their rental units. Due to the quick response of the local fire departments, it is likely that three will be deemed habitable however most things are smoky and some are wet. While most are single occupancy, there was a family of 3 living in one.

A Clean Slate (118 S 1st Street Bangor) starting Monday is collecting gift cards (grocery, Amazon, and gas), rolls of quarters and detergent, (for laundry) to help offset the loss of items. Jana, the Executive Director, will be splitting the items dependent on the needs of the tenants.

If you can get out but want to support them, Venmo donations can be sent to -morrissarnowski with the info line “thanksgiving fire.” Any questions please PM me. I hope you have a peaceful and serene holiday season!

Red Sand Project 2025

To mark the beginning of LVAT (Lehigh Valley Anti-Trafficking Collaborative) Week, our team and community members participated in the Red Sand Project — a global art initiative that raises awareness about human trafficking.

By pouring red sand into the cracks of our sidewalks, we honor those who have “fallen through the cracks” of society and bring attention to the hidden vulnerabilities that lead to exploitation.

Each grain of red sand represents a person whose story matters — a reminder that human trafficking happens close to home, and awareness is the first step toward change
