SSM Health St. Clare Hospital - Baraboo welcomes Ame Fischer, CNM, an SSM Health Dean Medical Group - Baraboo certified nurse midwife. She is now accepting new patients and will provide labor and birth care in the birth suites at SSM Health St. Clare Hospital - Baraboo.
Certified nurse midwives are advanced practice nurses with specialized training in midwifery. They provide comprehensive care for women throughout all stages of life, from adolescence to menopause, and are especially known for their expertise in pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum care.
Fischer brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to patient-centered, holistic care. Raised in Baraboo and fluent in Polish, she has a strong connection to the community and a passion for serving women in rural areas.
“I value building relationships with the women I serve in rural communities to provide a patient-centered and holistic experience,” according to Fischer. “I chose midwifery to be able to care for the women from before pregnancy, during, and beyond.”
Fischer completed her Master of Science degree in nursing, nurse-midwifery specialty at the Frontier Nursing University in Kentucky. She is a member of the American College of Nurse Midwives, Wisconsin Association of Perinatal Care, and the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetrics, and Neonatal Nursing.
“I take a very personalized approach to caring for my patients,” she says. “I assess the big picture and meet the patient where they are at in that point of their care.”
Outside of work, Fischer enjoys trail running, cooking healthy meals, traveling with her family, and reading. Her favorite destination? Poland - where she finds the perfect blend of ocean views, mountain hikes, rich history, and vibrant culture.
