✨Hot stones (Basalt, Himalayan, or any other variation) are often marketed as “just relaxation.” However, heat is one of the most effective therapeutic tools we have in bodywork 🙌🏻
Here’s how hot stones can be used very intentionally in sessions👇🏻
• Increase local circulation through vasodilation, which can help tissues feel less stiff & more receptive to massage
• Stimulate thermoreceptors that interact with pain pathways, helping reduce pain signaling & protective guarding
• Heat can temporarily increase tissue pliability, especially when paired with gentle movement or pressure
• Warmth signals safety to the brain, activating the parasympathetic (aka rest & relax) nervous system, which is often when muscle tone starts to soften
• Clients frequently tolerate pressure better after heat because the nervous system is already in a much calmer state
This is why I believe hot stones are a truly underrated therapeutic tool for a massage session 💆🏻♀️ When it comes to Himalayan salt stones specifically, one of the biggest benefits is the 84 minerals found naturally occurring in the salt…which is absorbed through the skin & benefits your body!!
