Feeling overwhelmed by fall errands, endless to‑do lists and holiday planning? Take a moment for yourself with these simple exercises designed to stimulate your parasympathetic nervous system — the “rest‑and‑digest” mode — and help you shift out of fight‑or‑flight.

• Diaphragmatic breathing
Diaphragmatic breathing, or "360 breathing," can be done anywhere, anytime, to help relax and lengthen the pelvic floor muscles.
Lie on your back with your knees bent and one hand on your chest and the other on your belly.
Inhale slowly through your nose, letting your belly fill with air so the hand on it rises.
Exhale slowly through your mouth, feeling the hand on your belly lower as you release the air.
Focus on your belly moving more than your chest with each breath.
As you get comfortable with breathing into your belly and not your chest, start to think about making the breath "360" - like an umbrella opening - feeling motion into the ribs in the side and back body for full diaphragm use.

• Child's Pose
This popular yoga pose is excellent for stretching and relaxing the pelvic floor, hips, and lower back.
Kneel on the floor with your knees wide apart and your feet together.
Sit your hips back toward your heels and fold forward, resting your chest on the floor between your knees.
Stretch your arms out in front of you or rest them by your sides.
Breathe deeply and hold the pose for 2 to 3 minutes.
