GERD, Acid-Reflux, Chronic Heartburn ... no matter what you call it, it can be treated.
Heartburn or acid reflux may be caused by gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD, which is a digestive disease in which stomach acid or bile irritates the food pipe lining. This is a chronic disease that occurs when stomach acid or bile flows into the food pipe and irritates the lining.
Acid reflux and heartburn more than twice a week may indicate GERD. Symptoms include burning pain in the chest that usually occurs after eating and worsens when lying down.
Relief may include lifestyle changes, over-the-counter medications or even surgery as Dr. Vardan Papoian, general surgeon and independent member of Barstow Community Hospital's medical staff, mentions in this brief video.
If you have acid reflux, ask your primary care physician for a referral to Dr. Papoian. For more information, visit https://barstowhealthpartners.com/services/general-surgery/heartburn-relief/.
