Today, we honor all who have served, thank you for your courage and sacrifice!

To our veterans: we honor your service, your strength, and the unseen stories you carry. Healing after service isn’t always linear, it takes time, courage, and support. If you or someone you love is navigating that journey, you’re not alone.

As the seasons shift, so do our chances to reconnect with ourselves and the world around us.

Grace offers this mindful invitation:
✨ Notice how the air feels on your skin.
✨ Listen for the rustle of leaves or the hush of wind.
✨ Take in the colors and textures around you.

Mindfulness doesn’t have to be complicated—it can begin with simply being present in your body and your environment.

Today is National Stress Awareness Day

We invite you to pause, breathe, and check in.

Stress isn’t weakness; it’s information from your nervous system.

Try this:
🫁 Take one slow inhale through your nose.
💬 Name one thing that feels heavy.
💖 Offer yourself kindness instead of judgment.

Happy National Candy Day!

Sweet moments matter 🍭

Still have Halloween candy around? Enjoy a treat or two — mindfully, with a smile. Balance means making space for joy, connection, and kindness toward yourself.

Grief doesn’t follow a straight line. It twists, it returns, it softens, and sometimes it sharpens again.

Susie gently reminds us:
✨ “There is no timeline for grief.”
✨ Be patient with yourself.
✨ Give yourself the time and space you need.

Grief is not something to "get over", it’s something we learn to carry, with compassion.

Taking risks doesn’t have to mean going to extremes.

Grace offers a “just right” approach, like Goldilocks:
✨ Too much risk can overwhelm.
✨ Too little risk can hold you back.
✨ Somewhere in the middle is where growth happens.

Try new things with courage and care. You deserve a life that’s both adventurous and grounded.

Words of Wisdom

Susie encourages us to shift our mindset:
✨ See obstacles as stepping stones.
✨ Don’t rush the process—take it one step at a time.

Even the smallest progress is still progress. You’re moving forward, even if it doesn’t always feel like it.

Supporting someone with OCD goes beyond listening, it’s about helping them find safety, understanding, and the care they deserve.

Small acts of compassion can make a big difference: offering a listening ear, learning about OCD, and avoiding reassurance rituals that keep anxiety cycles going.

And when you gently encourage therapy, you help open the door to lasting change.

Our Story

We are a private group therapy and counseling practice that provides services to adults, couples, teens, and children in Bartlett, Illinois. We help people reduce their emotional and/or physical pain, as well as the unhelpful effects that trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, parenting challenges, and/or problematic, gambling has had on their lives. We support and guide adults, teens, and children in developing helpful coping skills and strategies that will decrease their stress, overall anxiety, and depression. We assist people with developing the necessary skills that enable them to cope with and accept their chronic pain and chronic health illness/issues. This allows them to create the life they want and deserve to have. We also support couples in developing greater emotional transparency and intimacy while addressing underlying differences and conflicts. They can learn how to put an end to the communication patterns that have pulled them apart while learning new patterns that help them build stronger connections.

Colleen Koncilja LCSW, CADC, ICGC-II, BACC is the Director of the practice and had been a therapist for the past 27 years. We welcome the opportunity to talk with you more about of our services and see if we can be a resource to you and/or those you love. Feel free to email our us at colleen@healthandhealingtherapy.com or call at (630) 864-7267. We’d love to help you grow, heal, and thrive.
