What’s on our team’s nightstand right now 📚

We love sharing small glimpses into the humans behind our work. From fiction to personal growth, these are some of the books our clinicians are currently enjoying.

Sometimes what we read helps us unwind. Sometimes it helps us reflect. Sometimes it’s simply a comforting escape. All of it counts.

Which one would you pick up?

Words of Wisdom from Susie:

Red flags are your inner alarm. They’re meant to protect you. Ignoring them often means avoiding a truth or a change that’s needed.

Our January Newsletter is here!

This month, we’re focusing on a powerful reminder: the way you speak to yourself matters. The words we use internally can shape our emotions, our healing, and the way we move through the world.

Inside the newsletter, you’ll find thoughtful reflections and a free, downloadable worksheet designed to help you notice, challenge, and gently reshape your self-talk with more compassion.

Words of Wisdom
Defensiveness can feel automatic but it often masks something deeper.

Susie reminds us: “Defensiveness is often fear in disguise.”
Before reacting, try pausing to ask: What part of me is feeling threatened?

That moment of reflection can shift the conversation and your healing.

Words of Wisdom
You are not meant to stay the same.

Grace reminds us: “Every day is a chance to learn something new about yourself.”
Self-acceptance starts with seeing yourself as always evolving, not flawed, just growing.

Who you are now, who you were last month, and who you’ll be next year? They’re all you and all worthy.

Our Story

We are a private group therapy and counseling practice that provides services to adults, couples, teens, and children in Bartlett, Illinois. We help people reduce their emotional and/or physical pain, as well as the unhelpful effects that trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, parenting challenges, and/or problematic, gambling has had on their lives. We support and guide adults, teens, and children in developing helpful coping skills and strategies that will decrease their stress, overall anxiety, and depression. We assist people with developing the necessary skills that enable them to cope with and accept their chronic pain and chronic health illness/issues. This allows them to create the life they want and deserve to have. We also support couples in developing greater emotional transparency and intimacy while addressing underlying differences and conflicts. They can learn how to put an end to the communication patterns that have pulled them apart while learning new patterns that help them build stronger connections.

Colleen Koncilja LCSW, CADC, ICGC-II, BACC is the Director of the practice and had been a therapist for the past 27 years. We welcome the opportunity to talk with you more about of our services and see if we can be a resource to you and/or those you love. Feel free to email our us at colleen@healthandhealingtherapy.com or call at (630) 864-7267. We’d love to help you grow, heal, and thrive.
