Rocking Horse Rehab Rocking Horse Rehab offers Speech/Physical/Occupational and Mental Health therapies with our horses for children and adults with special needs.

Our services are open to public and to private/public schools for the disabled. Rocking Horse Rehab was established in September 2001 and was located at the Essex Equestrian Center in West Orange until our recent move to the beautiful Lord Stirling Stables in Basking Ridge, NJ which sits on 500+ acres of beautiful pastures and scenic trails. An indoor riding arena allows us to offer services year round and we look forward to enjoying the outdoor arenas and trails in the spring, summer and fall. Call today for more information!

Amber is a 23 year old miniature horse. She’s been working with children at RHR for the past 9 years!

She shines in our Mental Health, Adaptive Riding Groundwork, and School Group programs.

Horses are wonderful mirrors of our emotions, allowing us to acknowledge and work through our current state in a non-judgmental environment.

Rocking Horse is in need of volunteers for weekday sessions (Tuesday-Thursday) and Saturdays!

Are you a dedicated horse person wanting to give back to your community? Rocking Horse is the perfect place to start!

Are you new to horses but interested in learning more about our programs? No horse experience is required to volunteer with us. All volunteers are given a volunteer orientation that equips them with the knowledge necessary to assist in our programs.

Volunteers are the backbone of our programs and are invaluable members of the RHR family ❤️.

Dorito and Bart help children build their confidence and strength while having fun!

For 25 years, RHR has offered unique occupational therapy, speech therapy, physical therapy, adaptive riding and mental health programs that incorporate horses. Goals include improved emotion regulation, stress/anxiety management, strength building, speech production, physical coordination, focus and task completion.

Meet our therapy horses - Bart! 💙

Bart is a 22 year old Quarter pony, who spends most of his time working with students in our Hippotherapy programs (OT, PT, and SP!). He’ll be celebrating his 3 year anniversary with us this spring! 🥳.

He’s also a wonderful partner for the Horse Education portion of our Equine School Group programs!

Meet the newest member of the Rocking Horse Team- Patti!

Patti is a PATH Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor, and is currently accepting clients on Saturdays. She received an Equine Science Degree from Centenary University in 2022, is a Horse Powered Reading Facilitator, and is in the process of obtaining her PATH certification for Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning.

From Patti - “I am not sure I know how to put into words the tremendous joy and fulfillment working in this industry has brought me. I have always loved and have been passionate about horses and helping people. This career allows me to do both and enables me to be my truest self. I am looking forward to meeting all of you!”

RHR is Celebrating our 19th Year!

Since 2001, Rocking Horse Rehab has offered equine assisted therapies within the Essex Equestrian Center in West Orange, NJ. Our programs include Hippotherapy with speech, physical and occupational therapists as well as traditional therapy in a therapeutic gym within our center. Equine facilitated mental health programs are offered with a licensed clinical social worker. Music, dance, and yoga programs are offered in combination with equine assisted therapies. Parent and professional wellness workshops and summer programs are custom designed to meet the needs of individuals and groups. Group equine experiential activities are available for schools, day programs, and any other organization wishing to come to the farm for a field trip or ongoing weekly services. Therapeutic riding is offered on an individual basis for children and adults of all ages.

Rocking Horse Rehab is open 6 days per week and operates all year long as we have a heated indoor Olympic size arena with a reception for parents and staff overlooking the arena.

Insurance is accepted for some services and we accept DDD funding.
