Sharing personal details could potentially shift the focus away from your needs and towards mine, and that's not what therapy is about. I understand that you may be confused about the idea of not being friends in therapy. But you see, a friendship implies an equal partnership, and that's not what therapy is either. You will be paying me for my knowledge and expertise, and I will be providing you with the tools and guidance you need to make progress. It's important for me to maintain a certain level of professional separation to maintain my objectivity and provide you with the best care possible. Please don't misunderstand me, though. I care deeply about my clients and their well-being. I want nothing more than to see you succeed and achieve your goals. So, rest assured that my care and concern for you are genuine.
