Saturday morning, Batavia Fire Department crews responded to a commercial fire alarm at 701 N. Kirk Road. Crews located a fire involving equipment inside a powder coat booth at a manufacturing facility. The building’s sprinkler system activated and helped contain the fire to the equipment, and employees had used fire extinguishers before evacuating.
Firefighters fully extinguished the fire and checked the building to ensure the fire didn’t spread. Smoke was limited to the building, and no injuries were reported. The building remained in use after the incident. The cause is under investigation.
Thank you to our assisting agencies, including Fermi Lab, Geneva, St. Charles, North Aurora, Elburn, and Sugar Grove Fire Departments, for their support.

Hot surfaces can cause serious injuries in seconds. 🔥

During Burn Awareness Week, we’re reminding families to prevent contact burns; burns caused by touching hot objects like ovens, grills, and cookware.

👶 Supervise children around hot surfaces
🧤 Use oven mitts and protective gear when cooking
🚫 Assume all pots, pans, and tools are hot—even after use

Contact burns send tens of thousands of people to emergency rooms each year, and young children are especially at risk. Let’s take simple steps to keep everyone safe.

Learn more about burn prevention and help spread awareness.

🔥 It’s Burn Prevention Week! Let’s Talk Scald Safety! 🔥

Did you know that scald burns — burns caused by hot liquids like water, coffee, or steam — are one of the most common types of burns, especially in young children and older adults? 🤕 But the good news is that most scalds are preventable with a few simple safety steps!

💧 Tips to Prevent Scald Burns:
• Set your water heater to 120°F (49°C) or lower
• Always test bath water with your wrist or elbow before getting in
• Turn pot handles inward on the stove to prevent accidental spills
• Use back burners when possible
• Keep hot drinks away from the edge of tables and counters
• Supervise children closely around hot foods and liquids

Every year, thousands of scald injuries happen at home — but with awareness and small changes, we can keep our families safe. 💙
