It is with great sadness to share the news of passing of my dear friend Bill Mathis. Bill was not only a great friend, he was a big part of Empire H**p Co. When I came up with this crazy idea of starting Empire H**p in the back of my bike shop, he was right there encouraging me to do it and always helping me do what needed to be done to make the dream come true. Empire would not be what it is today without Bill, he is going to be deeply missed. Ride on brother, until we meet again. 🚴😢💔

We're ecstatic to have cleared our final hurdle with the OCM after a demanding week. We're now poised to unlock our doors within the next couple of weeks, kicking off with a soft launch followed by a grand opening. We'll continue to share our journey with everyone.

We have Big News!! Exciting Changes Coming!!

What began in 2018 as a shared vision between Shelly Wolanske and Chris VanDusen has grown into something bigger than either of them could have imagined. Together, they launched Empire H**p Co.

As demand grew, so did the business. In 2019, Empire expanded into a larger processing facility in Batavia, and by 2021, they opened their retail store at 204 E Main St. The space quickly became more than a shop—it became a community cornerstone, offering trusted wellness products and a place for connection.

Then came the next chapter...

In 2022, Empire H**p Co. secured licenses to cultivate and process THC cannabis. But under New York’s strict cannabis regulations, vertical integration is not allowed—meaning a single company cannot hold cultivation, processing, and retail licenses. This meant our store could not be converted to a dispensary under Empire, so a major decision had to be made...

Shelly made the bold and inspiring choice to step away from Empire H**p Co. and chart a new path forward—one that will stay true to her values while embracing the next evolution of her journey.

🌿 That path is now unfolding at Mrs. Green’s CANNAry, (Pronounced, CANNA-ree) located in the very same beloved space at 204 E Main St. Proudly Genesee County's first OCM Licensed Adult-Use Dispensary and 100% woman-owned, Mrs. Green’s CANNAry will continue to reflect Shelly’s dedication to bringing a warm welcoming environment for all those who visit.

To prepare for the transition, Empire H**p Co. will be closing its retail location on April 12, 2025, as the space is converted into Mrs. Green’s CANNAry. The new dispensary will continue to carry Empire products, along with a diverse selection of cannabis offerings from across New York State. We’re planning to reopen in early May.

Meanwhile, Chris continues to lead Empire H**p Co. and has relocated operations to a new facility in Batavia, better suited to support the company’s growth and focus on cultivation and manufacturing. Their latest THC products—like the popular GOAT Infused Pre-Rolls—are now available in licensed dispensaries across New York State, and will also be available at Mrs. Green’s CANNAry when it opens.

This moment is bittersweet, yes—but it’s also beautiful. It’s not a goodbye, but a bold branching out. Two companies. One origin. Growing in powerful, complementary directions.
