Some information from Gleaners CEO, Fred Glass on what Indiana food pantries and soup kitchens are preparing for in November:

"On November 5 when neighbors receiving SNAP benefits do not have funds loaded onto their EBT cards, 610,000 Hoosiers will be added to the approximately 25,000 federal workers and 1,100 military personnel stationed in Indiana who will find themselves in increased need as we head into the holiday season.

For every meal that food pantries and soup kitchens provide, the federal government has traditionally provided nine. While we cannot increase our output by nine times, we can commit to going the extra mile and increasing our support as much as we can."

The breakdown of SNAP recipients by county shows a picture of how this federal decision will impact our friends and neighbors here in Ripley and Franklin counties. Anyone who qualified for SNAP benefits (or qualifies for WIC or free/reduced school lunches) is able to receive services at the Batesville Food Pantry.

🥖 The Community Loaf Fund 🥖
October 24 - November 14

Last year, when I offered donation loaves throughout November and December, every single week sold out. It was such an amazing testament to the loving, supportive community we live in - and it reminded me just how powerful we can be when we come together.
This year, I’m building on that spirit of generosity with something new: The Community Loaf Fund.
After speaking with our local food pantry, I learned that their greater need right now isn’t more bread - it’s funds to help purchase the items that may not be as readily available or regularly donated, the things families in our community need most.

So I’m using what I have • my bakery • to turn bread into something even bigger. 💛

Starting tomorrow, you’ll see a COMMUNITY LOAF DONATION on my preorder menu. Unlike last year… this is not a physical loaf - it’s a symbolic loaf!
100% of your donation will go directly to our local food pantry to support our neighbors facing food insecurity.
I’ll be collecting donations over the next three weeks and will share updates each Wednesday so you can watch the total grow! When orders close at the end of the third week, I’ll tally all contributions, add a donation from the bakery and write a single check from all of us to the Batesville Food Pantry - just in time for Thanksgiving.

My sister, Christine Weaver, needs a liver transplant. My son has volunteered to donate a portion of his liver and is in the process of testing to be cleared as a donor.
