Today is World Stroke Day. About one in four adults over the age of 25 will have a stroke in their lifetime. Yet, most adults in the U.S. donโ€™t know the F.A.S.T. warning signs of a stroke:

- F is for face drooping.
- A is for arm weakness.
- S is for speech difficulty.
- T is for time to call 911.

This month is Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month, and we would like to recognize our incredible Diagnostic Medical Sonographers! They are the eyes for the radiologists and play a key role in diagnosing and guiding medical procedures.

Supporting a wide range of specialties including obstetrics, cardiology, vascular, breast and abdominal imaging, our sonographers' attention to detail ensures each image contributes to accurate diagnoses for better health outcomes.

You may see them all around the hospital scanning inpatients, outpatients, ER patients and assisting with surgery cases. Happy Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month!

In collaboration with the Batesville Area Arts Council, MMH was excited to visit students from the Batesville Community School Corporation this month, giving them the opportunity to express their creativity by designing handmade glass tiles to be assembled into a unique art piece for our new hospital.

The project, led by Brazee Glass Design, a renowned glass art studio in Cincinnati, unites local students from grades 6 through 12. The mural will be displayed in the hospitalโ€™s community hub when it opens next year.

If there's one word to describe four-time cancer survivor Amanda Lawson, it's resilient. After overcoming Hodgkinโ€™s lymphoma, thyroid cancer and endometrial cancer, the Versailles resident faced her most recent diagnosis โ€” breast cancer โ€” with the same unwavering determination. Earlier this year, she underwent a lumpectomy performed by Dr. Jon Geers and completed radiation therapy at MMHโ€™s Cancer Center.

"Receiving a cancer diagnosis is never easy but being able to receive great care close to home made all the difference," said Amanda. "My breast cancer was detected through a mammogram. It was so small it wouldโ€™ve gone unnoticed without it. Thatโ€™s why my message to women is to get screened. The earlier cancer is caught, the less invasive and more effective the treatment can potentially be."

When 77-year-old Gary Siebert of Brookville arrived at our rehab center, he was struggling with nerve damage, leg weakness and frequent falls. Today, thanks to his determination and the support of our therapy team, Gary is feeling stronger and enjoying a renewed sense of independence.

"I was so weak when I started therapy," said Gary. "Not only am I getting around much better now, but I also feel much better. The therapy crew (at Margaret Mary) is top-notch. I'd recommend them to anyone."
