In this month’s Why I Give feature, we are honored to highlight Jeff Showalter, who first became involved with the White River Health Foundation when he was asked to serve on the Board of Trustees in 2005. A Batesville native, Jeff has witnessed firsthand the growth of healthcare in our area and even remembers when the land where the hospital now stands was just an open field.
Jeff is especially passionate about community health and ensuring families have access to life-saving cancer treatment close to home. He recalls living with his grandparents as they aged and experienced declining health, and how the construction of the hospital became a meaningful milestone for his family and so many others in Batesville. His hope is that WRH continues working toward expanded access to quality healthcare for those we serve.
When asked how giving makes him feel, Jeff shared that giving is his way of expressing gratitude. He encourages others to take time to hear the story of WRH, understand the vision for the future, and recognize its commitment to serving our community. He believes there is a place for everyone to play a part in supporting WRH and strengthening healthcare in our region.
