Members of the Southern Tier Thunder 10U Carlton girls' travel softball team came up with a rewarding way to spend some of their off-season giving back to Veterans during this holiday season.

The girls, all age 10 and under, made homemade Christmas cards, filled stockings with ornaments and gifts, and brought lots of holiday goodies to Veterans at the Bath VA Medical Center. They celebrated and sang Christmas carols that echoed the halls. But more importantly they all took time to sit and visit with the Veterans. They learned about different branches of the service and what it meant to be drafted.

The girls are already asking when they can come back for another visit.

We’d like to extend a sincere thank you Avon Free Library for hosting an ongoing food drive in support of our Veterans. Their generosity and dedication continue to make a positive impact.

Donations of non-perishable food items can be dropped off at the Avon Free Library, 143 Genesee Street, Avon, NY, now through the end of January.

Thank you to the library staff and community members who continue to show up for our Veterans—we couldn’t do this work without you!
