Robert Michael Hujar

Robert Michael Hujar, affectionately known as Bob, passed away peacefully at his home in Bath, New York, on March 28, 2026. Born on June 27, 1943, in Johnson City, NY, Bob led a life marked by dedication, passion, and the warmth of close family and community.

Bob retired as a Mechanical Engineer from Corning Inc., where his technical skill and commitment left a lasting impact. Beyond his professional achievements, he was a proud member and past board member of the Bath Country Club, reflecting his deep connection to his local community.

A man of many interests, Bob found joy in riding his Harley Davidson, playing golf, and indulging his love for fly fishing and fishing—hobbies that brought him relaxation and happiness throughout his life. His faith was also an important part of his journey; he was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bath.

He is lovingly remembered by his life partner, Laura Ask, and her sons, Ryan and Kevin Ask; his son Michael Hujar; his goddaughter Jill Schoonejongen; and his brothers John Hujar and Joe (Monica) Hujar. He is also survived by his sisters Ann Marie (Joe) Tiderencel, Rita Broadhurst, and Kate Hujar, as well as many nieces and nephews who cherished his presence.

To all who knew him, Robert Michael Hujar will be remembered as a man of quiet strength, enduring kindness, and a true passion for both his family and pursuits. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched

Family and friends are invited to the First Presbyterian Church of Bath on Saturday, April 11. 2026 from 10:00-11:00 am for the visitation, with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 am and a reception immediately after in the fellowship hall.

Thomas H. Davidson

Thomas Harry Davidson May 3, 1937 – March 27, 2026

Thomas Harry Davidson—Tom to everyone who knew him—passed away on March 27, 2026, in Savona, New York, the town where he spent nearly all of his 88 years. He was a man who knew who he was, knew what he thought, and was in no particular hurry to reconsider either.

Tom was born on May 3, 1937, in Bath, New York, and graduated from Savona Central School in 1956. He served his country as a Corporal in the United States Army stationed in Germany before returning to the community he loved. In his later years, he and his wife Mary discovered the pleasures of a Florida winter, spending thirteen seasons trading Steuben County snow for warmer skies, though Savona was always home.

He was a devoted husband to Mary for 57 years, until her passing in 2020. Their love story ended where it began, and Tom will be laid to rest beside her at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Bath. He is survived by his three children: Rene’ Force, Rebecca Luta, and Matthew Davidson; nine grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren, who will carry his memory, and maybe a few of his opinions, forward.

Tom had the passions of a man who paid attention to things worth keeping: he was an avid collector and enjoyed playing poker. But perhaps his most reliable hobby was making people laugh. Tom was a man of strong convictions; once he arrived at a position, he held it with the confidence of someone who had thought it through and saw no compelling reason to change his mind. When he did, it was entirely on his own terms. He had a gift for puncturing a tense moment with a well-timed wisecrack, and he deployed them freely. Ask him how he was doing and he'd tell you, "I’ve been better, but it cost more." If a waitress asked, “Do you want a box?” he’d reply, "I'd rather wrestle." He never met a server he didn't try to charm, and the charm usually worked.

What his family will remember, too, is that Tom moved through the world with the curiosity of someone who never quite lost his sense of wonder. Even in his later years, he could greet an ordinary moment with the enthusiasm of a kid encountering it for the first time. On a flight once from Glasgow to London, hearing the landing gear lower on approach, he called out with genuine delight, "We're going down, we're going down!" —prompting his wife Mary to sharply remind him that you cannot announce you're going down on a plane full of people, even if you only mean that you're landing. He probably thought that was funny, too.

Tom Davidson was, in the best sense, someone who left a room a little livelier than he found it. We honor his memory. He will be deeply missed.

1955-2026

Bath, NY — Peter David Langendorfer, age 71, born March 10, 1955, died at his home in Bath, New York, on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.

Pete graduated from the Haverling Central School, where he swam and wrestled on the varsity teams. As a junior at Haverling High School, he received the Nadeau Citizenship Award and attended Boys’ State as one of the high school’s two representatives.

After graduation, Pete worked at Langendorfers’ Little Store on Route 54, for a short while before enlisting in the United States Air Force. During his 20 years of service in the military, he served in South Korea; Germany; Egypt during Desert Storm; Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas, NV; Pease Air Force Base, NH; Rome Air Force Base, Rome, NY; Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, NC and Minot Air Force Base in Grand Forks, ND. In 1992, Pete retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant and returned to his hometown, Bath, where he has been a longtime engaged member of St. Mary’s Church in the St. John Vianney Catholic Parish. He served on the Parish Council and the Building and Grounds Committee, was a cross bearer for Masses, a member of the Funeral Assembly, worked on the annual yard sale, and participated in the Care and Share Food and Toy Drive and Joseph’s Hammer.

One of Pete’s most cherished activities was as an active member and leader of the Council 5147 of the Knights of Columbus beginning in 1992. His roles included Grand Knight, Treasurer. Trustee, President of the Home Association, and volunteer liaison to the Bath Veterans Administration. In 2013, Pete was inducted into the Father Guilfoil Fourth Degree Assembly 732 in Corning, after which he was a frequent member of the Fourth Degree Honor Guard. Throughout his time with the K of C, he was devoted to the care and maintenance of the Knights of Columbus and Parish properties, including the Holy Cross Cemetery.

As a committed volunteer in the Village of Bath, Pete coordinated free interdenominational Sunday suppers at St. John Vianney and other local churches. He was a member of the Village of Bath Shade Tree Committee and on the Board of Directors of the Spring Meadow Apartments. Pete was especially beloved by many longtime elderly Bath residents for his work mowing their lawns, shoveling snow, making handyman repairs, and being a friendly presence in their lives. He worked part-time performing maintenance and repairs at the Dormann Public Library.

His large family fondly remembers Pete for his wry smile, his love of quiet time on his own, his lifelong endeavors to unselfishly help those in need, his passion for gun safety and hunting, and his commitment to a life of service to others. He is dearly missed.

Pete was the beloved son of John and Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Langendorfer, both of whom predeceased him. He is survived by his seven siblings, Stephen (Jeanne), Susan deMey (Allen), Thomas (Sue), Carol Mozes, Joanne Hastrich (Michael), Charles (Kelly), and Christine Deeter (Eric), 19 nieces and nephews, and 17 grandnieces and grandnephews, and one great grandniece.

A memorial gathering is planned for Saturday, 1:00-3:00pm, April 11, 2026, in O’Malley Hall at St. Mary’s Church in Bath. All members of the community are welcome and encouraged to join the extended family members to share their memories of Pete. The Knights of Columbus will provide refreshments.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to donate to a charity of your choice and to emulate Pete by engaging in acts of kindness to anyone in need.

Robert M. Roote

Robert M Roote

Bob, age 86, passed away on Wednesday February 25, 2026, at the Steuben Center in Bath, N.Y.

He was born in Bath to Robert S. and Beulah G. (m Leach) Roote.

Bob graduated from Haverling High School in 1957 where he excelled at football, wrestling, and especially baseball. He continued his education, earning an associate's degree from SUNY Alfred in 1960, and a bachelor's degree from Northeastern University in 1969.

After his honorable discharge from the United States Army in 1967, Bob and wife Carol (m Fiorillo) settled in Hudson Massachusetts where their family expanded to include son Robb, daughter Katie, son Tom, and son Jeff.

Given an opportunity to move back to Bath, in 1977 the family returned to what would be his final resting place.

Living "up on the hill" would be both challenging as well as rewarding, the quiet secluded country lifestyle suited Bob; whether making maple syrup in the spring, trout fishing the local streams and rivers throughout the summer, chasing a trophy buck in the fall, or tending the woodburning stove and snowed in driveway in the winter, Bob wouldn't have traded it for anything.

Back in Bath, the first entry on his resume would be business manager of the Haverling school system, an identical position to what he left behind in Hudson. The last entry would simply be "head lawnmower guy" at Hickory Hill Campground, a job he loved as it kept him outside, provided good company, and was close to home.

As much as he loved his family, he also loved his dogs, over time too many to list, but Butch and Sundance (Sunny) were his two most recent companions.

Predeceased by his parents, wife Carol, sisters Betty and Virginia, Bob is survived by his children: Robb, Katie (Jake), Tom (Allyson), and Jeff (Jenna); grandchildren: Danica, Will, Cameron, Jack, Ava, Fiorella, Rocco, Gianni, and Francesca.

A graveside service will be held in the spring at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Bath, N.Y.
