That list goes on. Being willing to acknowledge systemic harm and the impact of authoritarianism in therapy is the loving thing to do. It helps people stop blaming themselves and each other, and we can redirect some focus to caring for one another. Finding ways to show up together. (Also, esp in the south, some of our clients want to have hard conversations with people and we can model that too.)
Certainly I haven’t scratched the surface, and it’s not the only topic broached in session. But let’s be real, it’s really hard to focus on managing anxiety and depression, accomplishing tasks, or healing past trauma while the world is on fire and we know in our bones it isn’t safe.
I hope whoever is reading this can give yourself some grace today. You’re not alone, you’re not being dramatic, and it’s okay to scream into the void. Meet yourself where you’re at today and let that be enough.
Keep it kind, keep it weird, keep going🖤🦇🤘
