St. James Place residents had an unforgettable time Saturday at the Spanish Town Mardi Gras Parade at the City Club of Baton Rouge!
Surrounded by a sea of pink, laughter, music, and Mardi Gras spirit, our residents had a ball celebrating one of Baton Rouge’s most beloved Mardi Gras traditions. Events like these are what make life at St. James Place in Baton Rouge so vibrant, connected, and full of joy.
We even saw one of our residents on a float! Mrs. Gayle, how’d you get up there?!?
A special thank you to City Club for hosting such an incredible event and for creating a festive and hospitable atmosphere.
At St. James Place, we love keeping our residents active and involved in the best local events Baton Rouge has to offer - from Mardi Gras parades to community celebrations and everything in between.

St. James Place was honored to welcome the Southern Lotus Lion Dance Association for a vibrant Lunar New Year celebration! The traditional lion dance is an important Chinese cultural ritual believed to bring good luck, prosperity, and drive away negative energy during auspicious occasions.
Our residents enjoyed the energy, color, and excitement of this meaningful performance - and learned how a powerful lion dance symbolizes happiness and good fortune for the year ahead. Following the performance, residents sampled a variety of traditional Chinese dishes, making the celebration both festive and delicious.
At St. James Place, we are proud to offer engaging cultural events and enriching activities that promote community, lifelong learning, and joyful living. From holiday celebrations to wellness programs, our senior living community creates meaningful experiences every day.

Today, our residents (and a few team members!) rolled up their sleeves for a Boudin King Cake Class, and wow… what a delicious success!
Using the Boudin Shack’s famous boudin, everyone crafted their own savory King Cake masterpiece to take home and bake with the toppings to top it off - Tabasco Pepper Jelly, crispy cooked bacon, and fresh green onions. Talk about a Cajun twist on a Mardi Gras classic!
Enjoy your masterpieces tonight, and happy Mardi Gras from all of us at St. James Place! 💜💚💛

“During king and queen photo preparations, I had the quiet privilege of sitting with The Gaudets as their story unfolded. As I added a touch of depth to Mr. Al’s eyebrows, he shared pieces of their journey with humor and heart. While Miss Kathleen received her own regal finishing touches, she chimed in with memories that gently filled in the spaces between his words. Their easy laughter revealed a bond shaped by patience, affection, and time.

They recalled a simple moment at a pharmacy, a call placed because a specific item had run out. In that ordinary exchange, Mr. Al recognized his moment and took his shot, one that landed beautifully on Miss Kathleen’s heart. Later, with playful charm, he joked about the days when his hair was thick and full, so abundant that haircuts came every two weeks and a comb could barely pass through.

As we made our way to take photos, Mr. Al paused and reached into his wallet, sharing a photograph he has carried for many years, one he treasures deeply. There they were, so young and tender, our King and Queen, at the very beginning of their story. That small, sacred glimpse spoke volumes, a love steady enough to endure decades, quiet enough to live in a wallet, yet powerful enough to move the heart to tears.” - Barbara Broussard

Last month, St. James Place was transformed into a court of true royalty as residents who are former kings and queens of Mystic Krewe of Achilles, along with officers and distinguished members of the Krewe, gathered for an unforgettable Twelfth Night Celebration.
We were deeply honored to host such esteemed guests and warmly welcomed their family members for an evening steeped in tradition, pageantry, and Carnival spirit. From the balcony, a ceremonial toast rang out - officially ushering in the Carnival Season in majestic fashion.
Moments like these remind us why New Orleans Mardi Gras traditions, royal krewes, and timeless celebrations continue to inspire generations.

BATON ROUGE’S ONLY CONTINUING CARE RETIREMENT COMMUNITY WITH LIFE CARE

In the late 1970’s, a group of forward-thinking parishioners of St. James Episcopal Church in downtown Baton Rouge envisioned a full-service retirement community that would be the first choice for active, successful aging in the Gulf South region. St. James Place opened its doors in 1983 to become the first retirement community in the state of Louisiana.

We’re committed to providing a high-quality lifestyle and a lifetime of enrichment opportunities. St. James Place remains sponsored by St. James Episcopal Church and governed by a Board of Directors comprised of business leaders, Episcopal clergy, and community civic leaders. Situated on a beautiful stretch of 52-acres once known as the Duplantier Plantation, the community takes pride in providing the perfect setting to Live Life Well.

From engaging social activities to bucket list travel opportunities, you’ll have more time to pursue personal interests and enjoy an active lifestyle when you live stress-free and maintenance-free. There’s peace of mind in knowing there’s help available 24/7 and that a full continuum of care that includes Independent Living, Assisted Living, Nursing Care, and two distinct levels of Memory Care can meet your changing health care needs. At St. James Place, you’ll enjoy a lifestyle that focuses on choice and individuality in an atmosphere that encourages a more social, positive, and active way of life.

If you have any questions about the amenity-rich lifestyle at St. James Place, call us at 225-250-1850.
