Southern Eye Centers

Southern Eye Centers Southern Eye Centers offers comprehensive eye care for all ages, including eye exams, pediatric care, contact lenses, eyewear, and eye disease management.

We also provide expert cataract and LASIK co-management to support clear, healthy vision. At Southern Eye Centers our passion is caring for eyes. It is what we love to do, what we have always done and what our family has been doing for nearly a century. In 1925 Lacy Bordelon graduated from U.C. Berkeley and returned home to his native Alexandria, La. Lacy practiced Optometry in the back of the Sch

nack Jewelry Company for 18 years before opening his own practice and since then 10 members of the family have followed Lacy Bordelon and the practice of Optometry. Dr. Roger Shaw, who founded Southern Eye Center in Plaquemine, La and in Baton Rouge, La, graduated from the University of Houston and served in the National Guard. He has been a member of research and development teams for numerous contact lens companies, lectured nationally and internationally, and is a published author of articles for professional journals and a coauthor of the textbook, "The Fitting Guide for Contact Lenses." Dr. Shaw has served as an adjunct professor with the University of Houston College of Optometry, Pennsylvania College of Optometry and Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tenn. Dr. Roger Shaw retired from the practice in January of 2017. Presently Dr. Roger Shaw's daughter, Dr. Ann Shaw, is the latest in the family to follow the multi-generational lineage of Optometry. Dr. Ann Shaw received her Doctorate of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tenn. Dr. Shaw completed her internships at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Washington, D.C. and in Plano, Texas with Dr. Charles Shidlofsky, who specializes in vision care for autistic children and severely brain damaged patients. After beginning practice, she attended Louisiana State University and earned a Master's of Nutrition degree. She believes this degree is beneficial for her patients because nutritional research is currently proving there is a strong relationship between nutrition and eye health, especially with macular degeneration. Southern Eye Center's latest Optometrist is Dr. Adam Pickle. Dr. Adam Pickle earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA, and received his Doctorate of Optometry from the University of Houston College of Optometry graduating with Magna Cum Laude honors. He completed his internships at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Albuquerque, NM with Drs. Michael Sullivan-Mee and Denise Pensyl, who specialize in ocular pathology and disease and in Lafayette, LA with Dr. Donner Mizelle who specializes in specialty contact lenses, including keratoconus. Southern Eye Center is Excellence in Eye Care.

Are Eye Drops Enough?

Many patients tell us they have been using over-the-counter eye drops every day.

While these can help temporarily, they do not diagnose the underlying problem. Some redness relief drops may even worsen dryness with frequent use.

If your symptoms keep returning, it may be time for a comprehensive eye exam with Southern Eye Centers.

Call us to schedule.

This time of year, we see many patients with itchy, red, watery eyes. It is easy to assume it is allergies. However, dry eye can look very similar.

The difference matters because treatment depends on the cause. A comprehensive eye exam helps determine what is truly responsible for your symptoms and allows us to tailor a treatment plan.

If your eyes are uncomfortable this spring, schedule an appointment at Southern Eye Centers.
