April is Occupational Therapy Month! Today, we want to celebrate one of our outstanding OTs, Amelie Hardy, MOT, LOTR. Occupational therapists help people participate in the activities (or “occupations”) that matter most to them. Whether it’s getting dressed, returning to work, recovering after injury, supporting mental health, or helping with essential life skills, occupational therapists do it all! They turn everyday tasks into opportunities for healing, growth, and independence.

In honor of World Voice Day today, we are proud to recognize our dedicated Speech-Language Pathologists and the vital role they play in helping patients regain and strengthen their voices. Speech therapists specializing in voice therapy evaluate and treat a wide range of voice disorders, working closely with patients to improve vocal quality, strength, endurance, and overall communication. Through evidence-based techniques, they help individuals restore function, reduce strain, and build healthy vocal habits for long-term success.

We are fortunate to have four SLPs trained in SPEAK OUT!® and two SLPs certified in LSVT LOUD®, allowing us to provide specialized, high-quality care tailored to each patient’s needs, especially those with neurological voice disorders.

Today, we want to celebrate our SLPs for their expertise, compassion, and commitment to giving our patients their voices back. Thank you, Shannon, Nikki, Tatum and Jacey. We appreciate all that you do!!

🍲It’s Functional Friday!🍲

During speech therapy on this , we explored various crock pot recipes and performed meal planning tasks! This session targeted multiple functional communication and cognitive goals in an engaging way:

✔️ Comparing different recipes to identify preferences and similarities/differences
✔️ Writing down a chosen recipe to support sequencing and organization
✔️ Determining which ingredients were already available at home vs. what needed to be purchased
✔️ Calculating and comparing the costs of different crock pot meals to support money management and budgeting skills
✔️ Building problem-solving and planning skills for everyday independence

Using functional activities in therapy makes skills more relevant and easier to carry over into daily routines. Incorporating familiar, meaningful tasks like cooking not only increases engagement, but also empowers individuals to feel more confident managing daily responsibilities. These moments in therapy highlight how small, practical steps can lead to greater independence and improved quality of life.
