Giulia and Mark Lukach are two loving and exceptional people. I met Giulia when I was 14 and Mark when I was 18. We all went to college together. Mark and Giulia fell in love our Freshman year, like in September, like when most of us did not know where the bathrooms were and when I still had not registered for a single class. They got married when we were 24.

A little while ago I heard about a new memoir Mark had written. "My Lovely Wife in the Psych Ward" details what they went through as a couple and as parents when Giulia began to struggle with very unexpected mental illness in her 20s. I like them so much there's a part of me that hated thinking about that struggle. But I know they handled with a ton of bravery and love. And this book is an incredible candid telling of what it was like. I am so proud to know them.

I can't recommend this book enough. Even though it doesn't include the fact that Giulia and I went to the Homecoming Dance our Freshman year of high school and that my grandmother drove us.
