Sometimes I remember not to push through writing another progress note or cleaning the kitchen, and I take off my shoes, crawl under a weighted blanket and lie on the couch with my eyes closed.

I spent last weekend in Atlanta assisting the 5th cohort of the Southeast Brainspotting Institute's Diversity Fellowship Program through their Phase 1 Brainspotting training. And, I'm excited to join the Board of SEBI. But, the best part of my relationship with SEBI are the friendships I have been privileged to have with the members of my cohort, and I was lucky to get to spend some time with two of those friends last Sunday. Though we're located all over the country, these are some of the most important people in my personal and professional development. ❤️

The American Counseling Association and other professional associations have condemned the use of conversion therapy and will continue to do so. Any licensed mental health professional who is engaging in conversion therapy is in violation of their ethical codes of conduct and should be reported to their licensing board.

In light of recent oral arguments at the Supreme Court in the Chiles v. Salazar case, ACA reaffirms that conversion therapy is a harmful practice. We also reaffirm our commitment to supporting policies that protect clients, uphold professional standards and advance the integrity of the counseling profession. As part of a coalition of mental health organizations, we have signed on to a friend of the court brief reiterating:

• Conversion therapy is a dangerous and discredited practice
• Psychotherapy is more than simply ‘talking’ — it is a medical treatment and therefore can be regulated by states
• Conversion therapy can fuel stigma and discrimination toward the LGBTQ+ community

I am proud to be a sponsor of Sexual Trauma Awareness & Response Center's Central Louisiana Office Open House & Fundraiser. The CenLA office does an amazing job in providing much needed services to the community, and they do it with only 3 full-time staff and one part-time counselor. In fact, last year, they provided 5,846 services to survivors of sexual trauma, including case management, trauma-informed counseling, emergency financial assistance, and free legal representation. They are truly the Little Office That Could!

Programs like STAR have experienced cuts from grant sources, but the demand for their services has only increased.

Please consider donating to the ongoing services of the CenLA office, and stop by the Open House if you're in the Alexandria area.

About Me

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and National Certified Counselor (NCC). Prior to becoming a counselor, I worked for fifteen years as a victim advocate for those affected by sexual violence and intimate partner violence. I enjoy working with a variety of individuals, but I specialize in issues related to trauma, gender and sexual identity, grief and loss, problem sexual behaviors, and mood disorders.

I am trained in various techniques and approaches, and I tailor my sessions to each client’s needs. In addition to traditional talk therapy, I use mindfulness, somatic approaches, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and cognitive-behavioral techniques. I provide individual treatment, as well as group counseling, and I work with teens and adults.

I know that counseling can be a scary and intimidating process, and I’ve been in counseling myself. I understand that what we need, above all else, is to be heard and to be understood, and I see the counseling relationship as the most important factor to your healing. I encourage my clients to be as open and honest as possible, and I promise to do the same.

Welcome to my page. I hope that you find it useful. If you are interested in counseling services, please contact me at 225-306-1433.
