Life Source Hospice has a viable community partnership with Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady of the Lake University (FRAN U) and last week they had a lot going on! We were so enthused to be a part of their week long events.
Especially when some of their administrative team came by this past weekend to give of their time and energy towards community service at our office working alongside our Volunteer Coordinator and Medical Records Coordinator.
FRAN U celebrated their Inauguration Week, March 23–28, 2026, they honored their Franciscan heritage and future vision through prayer, community events and ceremonies. They invited students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends to be part of a major milestone in FranU’s journey with the formal inauguration of their new and fifth president of the university, David M. Bellar, Ph.D.

It was a busy week for our Volunteer Progam and we loved every minute of it!

Yesterday was National Vietnam War Veterans Day. The Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act, signed into law in 2017, designates March 29 of each year as a day of commemoration to pay tribute to the sacrifices of Vietnam veterans and their families. With this Act, the service and sacrifice of the more than 3 million Americans is honored and recognized in the official Congressional Record.

In 1980 Congressional legislation authorized the building of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial to honor all those who served in the war. Dedicated on November 13, 1982, the groundbreaking memorial featuring two black stone walls was built to help heal the nation by paying tribute to the sacrifices of those who served and those that died. More than 58,000 names of servicemembers who died or identified as missing in action are listed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The memorial and the Act also honor the more than 300,000 physically wounded and hundreds of thousands who suffer with post-traumatic stress disorder, and afflictions caused by Agent Orange, leeches, and parasites.

Life Source recognizes and honor our hospice patients whom are Veterans through the We Honor Veterans program shortly after they are admitted onto hospice. They are presented a United States flag pendant and a certificate made possible through the Department of Veteran Affairs. Many of them are Veterans whom served during war times in the Vietnam war.

If you are a veteran, we are always seeking Veterans to volunteer to spend time with our hospice patients that are also Veterans.
Give us a call for more info 225-291-9421.

Our hospice is Recruiting Military Veterans and Reservist to Volunteer. There are no smiles bigger than a hospice patient's smile when they see a comrade enter their doorway to visit them. If you know of someone that has the time and the smile, please tell them to contact us, we have patients that need their smile.

Volunteers are the Heart of Hospice! Life Source Hospice Services volunteers are members of a dedicated group of loyal and sensitive individuals who give of themselves to help ensure the mission of hospice care. Each volunteer brings something special to hospice to help fulfill our mission.
