Congratulations to our Spotlight Resident this month, Joyce! She was born in Lansing, MI and graduated from Battle Creek Central. She met a friend who set her and David up on a blind date. David was a farmer from the Marshall area. They dated for a brief time; David proposed to Joyce the same day he received his draft papers! David insisted that they quickly marry so that he would know that he had a wonderful wife waiting for home upon his return. They were married on her birthday in 1953 and were married for 68 years before he passed.
David was in Korea for 2 years and couldn't wait to get home to Joyce and farming. In the meantime, Joyce lived with her mom and had their first child! Steve was born and was two years old before he met his dad. Joyce is blessed with four children (Steve, Scott, Sindy and Stanley), 11 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. During their marriage, Joyce was busy raising four kids
and helping on the farm. It was hard labor, but she thinks it helped make her the strong woman that she is now. Joyce is a member of Newton Methodist Church and still attends regularly. Joyce says that her greatest accomplishment was raising 4 healthy
children and one grandson.
Now, Joyce enjoys puzzles, reading, Bingo, Euchre, and lunch outings. Sheโs also an active member of the Lakeview Welcome Committee.
