Evelyn Sue Leverett Hunt, age 80, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2026 at Harborview Jesup under the care of South Georgia Hospice.

Mrs. Hunt was born August 6, 1945 in Enoree, South Carolina. She was a retired administrative assistant with the Appling County Department of Family and Children Services. She was a longtime member of the Baxley Church of God where she was active in the music ministry, bus ministry, and nursing home ministry. Mrs. Hunt was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved to read and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas & Viola Clevenger Leverett, and a sister, Judy L. Shealy.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth H. Hunt; daughters, Deborah Hunt Moody Aspinwall and Katie Marie Hunt; grandchildren, Kayla Danielle Moody Gruber and Brandon Robert Moody; great grandchildren, Maeleigh Kate Padgett, Mercie Beth Gruber, Gerald Luke Gruber, and Madelyn Blake Moody; sister, Trudy Chapman (Dr. Micheal Ray Chapman); and several nieces and nephews also survive.

A memorial service will be held later with inurnment in Moody Cemetery.

Dorothy Lee “Dot” Wiggins Higgins, age 79, of Baxley passed away Saturday, March 14, 2026 at her residence.

Mrs. Higgins was born on December 6, 1946 in Baxley. She was a member of Dunn Memorial Baptist Church and had a loving, servant’s heart. She loved her family and especially her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis Odell Wiggins, Mamie Lee Sikes Wiggins Hicks, and Kenny Hicks; her husband, Robert Higgins and daughter, Mandy Simmons.

Survivors include her daughters, Angie (Farris) Dyal of Baxley, Kristin (Jarred) Stevens of Douglas; sons, Odell (Brenda) Higgins of Baxley, Allen Higgins of Baxley and Stacy (Tanya) Higgins of Baxley; sisters, Cathryn Harrelson of Baxley and Vivian Griffin of Baxley; brother, Bob (Christa) Wiggins of Amelia Island, Florida, and son in law, Ricky Simmons of Baxley. Ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Dunn Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Brown and Rev. Doug Weisel and Rev. Ryan Clements officiating. Interment will follow in Zoar Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Patrick Higgins, Luke Dyal, Micheal Higgins, Austin Higgins, Travis Crosby, and Ricky Simmons.

Visitation will be held Monday, March 16, 2026 at Swain Funeral Home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

Eula Mae Edwards, age 84, of Hazlehurst passed away Friday, March 13, 2026 at her residence under the care of Coastal Hospice.

Mrs. Edwards was born on August 4, 1941 in Hazlehurst to the late Clayton Harrell and the late Willie Mae Harrell. She was a member of Oak View Baptist Church. Mrs. Edwards worked at the Jeff Davis Courthouse for 44 years, and served as Clerk of Court for 24 years. She always had a remarkable way of making everyone who knew her feel special. Her warm smile was constant and genuine, and it brightened every room she entered. Her generous heart and kind spirit touched everyone. She will be leaving behind a legacy of kindness, warmth, and abounding love that will never be forgotten. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Lee Sharpe and Eudell Brewer.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, James L. “PeeWee” Edwards of Hazlehurst; son, Stacey (Rhonda) Edwards of Hazlehurst, and sister, Bonnie Nix of Hazlehurst. Two grandchildren, Cody (Sophia) Edwards and Cade (Jordan) Edwards also survive.

Funeral services will be on Monday, March 16, 2026 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Yawn and Rev. Royce Hullett officiating. Interment will follow in Oak View Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Cody Edwards, Cade Edwards, Richard Nix, James Sharpe, Daniel Edwards, and Colby Edwards.

Honorary pallbearers will be all family and friends in attendance.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the time of the service.

Mary Ellen Smith, age 70, of Baxley passed away Sunday, March 8, 2026 at Memorial Health in Savannah.

Mary Ellen was born March 14, 1955 in Appling County to the late Otis Griffin and the late Myrtle Branch Griffin. She was a member of Spring Branch Baptist Church and was employed at the Appling County Head Start. Mary Ellen loved flowers, hummingbirds, and enjoyed working with her kids at work, fishing and being with her family. She was preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn Branch and brothers, Randall Branch, Pete Griffin, and Malcolm Griffin.

Survivors include her fiancé, Kenny Davenport of Baxley; sons, Kenny (Beth) Smith of Cedar Bluff, AL and Alan ( Alicia) Smith of Baxley; sisters, Sarah (Ronnie) Boatright, Janie Cummings, Debbie Branch (David), Donna (Greg) Parlor, Carolyn (Gary) McDaniel all of Baxley; brothers, Harry (Joan) Griffin, Richard Griffin, Tim (Sandy) Griffin, Cecil (Karen) Griffin, Carlos (Julie) Griffin all of Baxley and Wendell (Peggy) Griffin of Screven; four grandchildren also survive.

Wendell Lee Todd, age 95, of Baxley passed away Sunday, March 8, 2026 at Memorial Health in Savannah.

Born November 26, 1930, in Dublin, Georgia, Mr. Todd lived a life marked by service, adventure, and unwavering faith. His career as an electrician took him across the nation, and he proudly served his country in the United States Navy. At Riverside Baptist Church, he was known for his friendly smile and the heartfelt hugs he offered to everyone who walked through the doors. A committed Mason and member of the Holmesville Masonic Lodge, he lived out his values with strength and integrity. He will be remembered for his gentle smile, his steadfast faith, and the love he shared so freely.

Mr. Todd was preceded in death by his parents, William A. Todd and Eva Lee Jones Todd, a son, Wendell Allen Todd; and brothers, Truman Adison Todd and Dekle Dean Todd.

Survivors include his wife, Vernell Fort, children, Lee Ann Todd Jackson, Rebecca Lynn Todd, Catherine Demers, and Richard Wayne Todd; stepchildren, Sharon Fort Sanders, Dean Fort, and Carol Fort Moser; sister-cousin, Mary White; several grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 12, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Riverside Baptist Church with Rev. Justin McLellan and Rev. Bill Stone officiating.

A committal service will be held at 3:00 p.m. in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville.

Active pallbearers will be Jamie Patterson, Josh Stone, Ricky Cleland, Sr., Ricky Carter, Lee Jones and Earl Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Riverside Baptist Church and members of the Holmesville Masonic Lodge.

Martin Ray Crapps, age 76, of Baxley passed away Sunday, March 8, 2026 at his residence.

Mr. Crapps was born on March 6, 1950 in Seattle, Washington to the late Thomas Horace Crapps and the late Loretta Marie Herbert Crapps. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was retired from Rayonier/Interfor. Mr. Crapps enjoyed coaching the Appling County 4-H BB Team, participating in the Cattleman’s Association, assisting many community farmers and attending all his grandson’s events and activities.

Survivors include his daughters, Michelle Crapps and Allison Williams, both of Baxley; son, Jared Crapps of Baxley; and one grandson, Kade Crapps also survives.

A private service will be held Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Miles Chapel Church with Rev. Robbie Tomberlin officiating. Friends and family are invited to attend graveside at 11:30. Following the service, a Celebration of Life and fellowship with family and friends will follow in the Church Social Hall.

Active pallbearers will be Bruce Esquinaldo, Tommie Esquinaldo, Matt Butler, Mark Gallagher, Justin Wilcox and Dustin Horne.

Thomas Kip Davis, age 62, of Baxley passed away Sunday, March 8, 2026 at his residence under the care of South Georgia Hospice.

Kip was born on December 14, 1963, in Appling County. He was a self-employed plumber and electrician and a member of Riverside Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, choir leader, and in many other capacities. Kip was a man who was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who asked or had a need. He served as an EMT for Appling County, Jeff Davis County, and Telfair County and was also employed at Swain Funeral Home. Kip was preceded in death by his parents, Jeanette Copeland Hand, Rabon Hand, and James Thomas Davis, and a brother, Terry Davis.

Survivors include his wife, Rhonda Davis; daughters, Ayla Davis and Nicole (Brian) King; brother, Keith (Robbie) Davis; sister-in-law, Lavay Davis; grandchildren, Haydyn King, Colton King, Trinton Morton, Bella Morton, Trevor Morton and River Davis; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Riverside Baptist Church with Rev. Justin McLellan, Rev. Allen Copeland, and Rev. Rick Brown officiating.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Odis Lee Claxton, age 86, of Baxley passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at Hazlehurst Court Care & Rehab.

Mr. Claxton was born on November 9, 1939 in Appling County to the late Lewis Claxton and the late Belle Martin Claxton. He retired from Glennville Lingerie. Mr. Claxton was an avid gun’s man and enjoyed shooting and hunting, but his dogs were his world. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ludine Claxton; children, Ladon, Sydney, and Robbie.

Survivors include his daughter, Paula (Charlie) Anderson of Hazlehurst; sister, Mildred Jackson of Baxley; brother, Max (Helen) Claxton of Hazlehurst. Four grandchildren, five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Pastor Kelly Anderson officiating.

Mrs. Claxton was born July 30, 1941 in Appling County to the late Joseph B. Bowen and the late Nora B. (Kersey) Bowen. She was a member of Friendship Congregational Christian Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother; known for her sweet spirit and friendly smile. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Isaac Claxton.

Survivors include her daughters, Pam (Kenny) Hutcheson, Cindy (Jerry) Thomas, Peggy Claxton, Melanie Claxton, and Angie (Scotty) Weaver all of Baxley; sisters, Sue Guynn of Brunswick, Nellie Tootle and Jackie Siddons both of Baxley. Six grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Friendship Congregational Christian Church Cemetery.

Wanda Lee Waters, age 68, of Baxley passed away Thursday, March 5, 2026 at Appling Healthcare.

Mrs. Waters was born on September 25, 1957 in Savannah, Georgia and was a member of Red Oak Baptist Church. Until her health declined, she was a dedicated dispatcher for Appling County 911 and was instrumental in the formation of the 911 address system for Appling Co. Mrs. Waters was a former paraprofessional at Appling County Primary School and a former member of the Red Oak Fire Department. She was preceded in death by her mother, Hilda Crummey Sirman.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Carol Waters, sons, Michael Waters and Jason Waters; daughter-in-law, Robin Waters; father, Donald Sirman; sister, Renee (Wayne) Meisheid; parents-in-law, Ralph and Carolyn Waters; sister-in-law, Johnnie Faye Waters; brother-in-law, Roy Waters; grandchildren, Brendan Waters, Alyssa Waters, Caleb Waters, and Christian (Shaleigh) Foland; great grandchildren, Aleczander Foland, Nacona Foland, and Calcifer Foland; and nieces, Kaylee (Tom) Stanley and Lindsey (Bryan) Ham.

James T. "Jimmy" Wigley

James T. “Jimmy” Wigley, age 54, of Baxley passed away Friday, February 27, 2026 at his residence.

Jimmy was born on November 13, 1971 in Bacon County to the late James Levi Wigley and the late Nina Beth Hunter Wigley. He served as the maintenance manager at Healthy Pet and dedicated his life to the fire service, proudly serving as a firefighter since 1991. Jimmy served with the Baxley Fire Department and the Surrency Fire Department as a fire instructor. His commitment and steady presence made a lasting impact on his community.

He took great pride in his work with the Atlanta Fire Pit Crew at Atlanta Motor Speedway and was a valued member of the inaugural Appling County Dive Team. Jimmy’s life was marked by service, loyalty, and a deep love for the people and places he devoted himself to.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Wigley of Baxley; daughters, Jessica Wigley, Hailei Tillmon, and Kaley (Gaines) Spell all of Baxley; sons, Jake Martinez and J. J. Mincey both of Baxley; sister, Katie (David) Davis of Baxley. Eleven grandchildren also survive.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Midway Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Williamson and Rev. Brannon Pate officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Jeffrey McLellan, Michael McDaniel, Joe Oxendine, Josh Douglas, Ronnie Mullis and Bill Holcombe.

Honorary pallbearers will be past & present fellow firefighters and the maintenance department of Healthy Pet.

Mrs. Edge was born on April 2, 1945 to the late Doris Carter and the late Dorothy Yawn Carter. She worked on the assembly line at PCC Air Foils for many years. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, working in her garden and tending to her flowers. She also loved to fish. Her greatest pass time was spending time with her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her children’s father, Billy Edge, sisters, Patricia Rowell, Bobbie Jean Mitchum, Janice Moore, and Lynell Taylor, and brothers, Bronnie Carter, Ronnie Carter, Johnnie carter, and Patrick Carter.

Survivors include her daughter, Alena (Wayne) Hurley of Hazlehurst; sons, Ronnie Edge of Denton and Bruce Edge of Hazlehurst, and a brother, Greg (Lori) Carter of Ocilla. Eight grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild also survive.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 2, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. at Macedonia Church of God with Rev. Van McCall officiating. Interment will follow in Yawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Hunter Miller, Kaden Spell, Daniel Pelletier, Randon Edge, Mikel Edge, and Ross Hall.

Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Vista Park Health.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Macedonia Church of God.
