One of the most powerful things to witness during a Spinal Energetics session is a shift in breathing.
When the nervous system begins to relax and move out of a stress response, the body naturally changes its breath pattern. You may notice deeper inhales, spontaneous sighs, changes in rhythm, or waves of breath moving through the chest and abdomen. This is the body releasing stored tension and allowing energy to move more freely through the spine and nervous system.
Breath is directly connected to the autonomic nervous system. When the body moves from sympathetic mode (fight-or-flight) into parasympathetic mode (rest, repair, and regulate), breathing becomes deeper and more fluid. This shift allows the body to:
• release stored emotional and physical tension
• improve oxygenation and circulation
• regulate the vagus nerve and nervous system
• support spinal mobility and energetic flow
• create space for deeper healing and integration
Research in somatic therapy and nervous system regulation shows that breath changes are one of the clearest indicators that the body is moving into a healing state. When breath begins to open, the body often follows with physical, emotional, and energetic release.
In Spinal Energetics, the body does the work it is ready for. Nothing is forced. The nervous system simply remembers how to unwind.
This is the intelligence of the body returning to balance.
