NEWS RELEASE: Investigation Underway Following Major Crash Involving Baytown Police Officer
Baytown Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating a major crash involving an on-duty Baytown Police officer. On October 23, 2025, at approximately 7:10 p.m., Baytown Police officers responded to a crash involving a marked patrol unit and a van at the intersection of West Baker Road and Country Club Drive.
Preliminary information indicates an on-duty Baytown Police officer was involved in the crash while operating a marked patrol unit. The officer sustained a leg injury and was transported by Life Flight for medical treatment. The officer is currently in stable condition.
The second vehicle, a 2023 Honda Odyssey driven by a Baytown woman, was occupied by five minors. Two of the minors were transported by Life Flight, while the driver and the remaining passengers received medical attention at the scene. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.
Responding officers immediately rendered life-saving measures until Baytown EMS arrived and assumed care of the injured parties. The Baytown Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team, along with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division (VCD), responded to the scene and initiated an investigation into the cause of the crash.
“This is a tragedy for everyone involved and impacted by this event,” said Police Chief John Stringer. “Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers are with the children and family involved, as well as our officer, the officer’s family, and the Baytown officers who responded to the scene. While this has been a difficult time for everyone, we are grateful that our officer is in stable condition. The department’s Traffic Reconstruction Team is investigating in accordance with standard procedures and is cooperating fully to ensure a transparent and factual review of this incident. We ask for patience and objectivity from the community as we gather all information, which may take some time. I would also like to recognize the professional and compassionate response of our officers who provided aid to all involved.”
