Eye care professionals play a critical role in the contact lens process, from the fitting of contact lenses to the protection of their patients’ ocular health, which is one reason we fight to defend the doctor–patient relationship.

In August, appropriations bill H.R. 6157 passed the U.S. Senate. This legislation calls for increased vigilance for eye health and safety and tasks the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) with reviewing eye health research findings and finding ways to increase patient vision safety.

Contact Lenses should not be purchased without a doctors prescription from the local convenience or beauty supply store. There is no such thing as a non-prescription contact lens.
