Public service announcement: KETO followers, beware!!! Erythritol has been shown to cause blood clots leading to heart attacks and strokes. The artificial sweetener is a sugar alcohol marketed as Swerve and is found in many sweetener blends. You must read the ingredient list. There is another article saying keto diet causes increased risk of heart attack and stroke. Well, until the erythritol is excluded, the likely cause is erythritol! It increases platelet stickiness and erythritol stays in your blood up to 2 WEEKS after a dose in healthy volunteers! Avoid it!!! Who wants a heart attack or stroke!? No one!!!! If you must, I can’t say that aspirin will work 100%. But I would take it if eating erythritol!

Metabolomics analyses reported an increased risk of cardiovascular disease associated with the artificial sweetener erythritol, supported by mechanistic studies showing that high levels of erythritol enhanced platelet reactivity and thrombosis formation.

We have a special edition of Gander of the Week!

Last week, a student suffered a medical emergency and Ms. Alcantarā€˜s ENTIRE 4th period sprang into action.

ā€œI was at my doorway and one student told me that a student was "moving weird". The student grabbed my shoulder and pulled me into the room to see the student having a seizure. I asked the teacher next door to call for an AP while I called the Nurse. I asked another student to get a nurse and he ran to the nurse's office. As I was on the phone, the other students started to move the desks on their own, the only thing I told them was to make sure he was on his side. All the students were trying to help in some way. Another student took the lead and told everyone to move if they weren't helping. The students followed instructions and responded effectively to the serious matter at hand.ā€

For their heroic actions last week, Ms. Alcantar’s 4th period are the Ganders of the Week.

THAT is true Gander PRIDE. Job well done young ladies and gentlemen.
