🫁 The lungs of a fetus are filled with fluid to keep the alveoli patent (open) while they develop in the womb.
🔘
During the birth process, the pelvic and va**nal muscles and tissues squeeze the baby’s chest and expel much of the fluid.
💦
(This 😍 shot has captured it sooo beautifully!)
Kudos to ⭐️

Baby’s first few breaths will push the remaining fluid into the surrounding tissues and allow the alveoli to fill with air rather than fluid.

These first breaths can sound rattly and labored.

The rush of blood through the cord as the baby’s body is freed from the compression of the va**na floods the blood vessels in the lungs with oxygen-rich blood. This allows for the pressure needed to begin the in-and-out oxygen exchange through the lungs baby will use for the rest of their life.

It is a wise and straightforward process, though some babies take more time than others and fewer still need some support to complete it.

LEAVE THE CORD INTACT!
It is a natural, inborn tool for resuscitation if needed.

A baby born to a partially vaccinated mother was the first known case of such a baby born with COVID antibodies, which may offer it some protection.

Shhh no one ever talks about that. No one warns you that you'll be so wrapped up in baby and barely surviving that you can't function as a free human any longer. No one tells you that exhaustion is your best friend and worst enemy. No one tells you your standards before baby and after baby will have to change in order for you to survive. No one tells you that if you do take a break from partner or baby that you will feel guilty for doing so. No one will tell you you will become stronger for your efforts. No one will tell you that you will become someone you never thought you could be. No one will tell you that you are amazing. No one but other Mum's who have walked your lonely path and survived to tell their tale.

You can and will do this and yes, you are incredible and amazing and we all have those days of doubting we are doing it right, let alone doing it at all.

Why do we only learn about breastfeeding when we have to do it ourselves?

FUN FACT FRIDAY ABOUT MILK-MAKING. Did you know you grow more milk-making cells in your breasts with each pregnancy? So the more pregnancies you have, the more grapes (erhm.. I mean milk-making cells) you’ll have! 🍇
Were you a first time mom struggling with milk supply like me? I don’t think a day went by where I didn’t think about ways to at least keep up my supply.
Second time around? A BOUNTIFUL supply! Now there are many factors for this, but one is because the hormone changes that you go through in pregnancy help your body make more milk-making cells. So in addition to the ones you had from your last pregnancy, you’ll have some more!
Pretty neat huh? So if your breastfeeding journey didn’t work out the way you wanted to your first time, it likely won’t be the same the second time around (for many reasons, having more milk-making cells being one of them!) 🙌🏻
I’ll have way more information like this on my website, where the launch is coming in March. Be the first to know! Link in the bio or go to breastfeedingdietitian.com 🤱
