If you’ve been in one of my guided meditations you might have heard me say something similar to this. There is Om in every sound.

Why do I say this? In its most practical terms, when you are trying to settle in for meditation or contemplation or trying to sleep, sound can become a great agitator. So, we seek out the Om in that sound. Easy enough if it’s a loud blowing heater not as easy with the neighbors barking dog. This I know LOL.

In some traditions it’s believed that Om is the underlying vibration of all sound. And if you’ve ever heard someone chanting Om, it’s a pretty beautiful sound. So, when we seek this sound out we tell our nervous system that the annoying sound is just vibration. We go from threat mode to safety. Our exhale lengthens and our hyper vigilance softens.

HOW DO YOU FILL YOUR CUP?

🧳 Travel fills mine.

It widens my world
and deepens my empathy.
Understanding people and their history, joy, and suffering, keeps my heart open and my work honest.

Awe is spiritual for me.
Alone in a jungle with
Howler Monkeys.
The Grand Canyon knocking me off balance (literally 😅).
The Road to Hana with my daughters in the back seat laughing.
The Great Wall.
The Dead at the Sphere.

And sometimes… something more.

In Taos, walking through the Pueblo built in the year 1000 and still alive, I felt a force field across my upper back.
Never before in my life.
Not warm. Not scary.
Propelling.
Like I wasn’t meant to turn back.

I’m woo-woo and science-brained.
Both live here.

Later, sitting by a piñon fire with a Native woman selling jewelry, she casually showed me a framed National Geographic cover - IT WAS HER from 1994.
As a kid, I read those magazines dreaming of someday traveling the world.
I didn’t get on a plane until I was 30.
I haven’t stopped since.

Now that I’m home from Santa Fe, my Reiki feels deeper.
Ancient.
Seasoned.

Like piñon.

The last 24 hours were a dream I dreamed a long time ago. In the morning I brought meditation and mindfulness to the staff at Grace Smith House. If you don’t know, they’re located in Poughkeepsie and offer shelter, advocacy, & support to domestic violence victims and their families. These people are walking the walk of support and care. If you know anyone who needs their services, here’s their IG And wouldn’t you just think that an organization like this would just be flush with funding? They are not. What a world.

And then my evening was spent at the Hudson Valley Hospice House bringing meditation and reiki to their staff. Ummmm…..their collective energy was something I haven’t experienced, ever. They beamed bright compassionate energy. Offering some peace to them has been a thirty year dream. Here’s why.

In 1993, they helped my father pass. In 1996, they helped my mother pass. In 2016, they did the same for my sister. In 2024, they did it again for my Joni Mitchell sounding beautiful Aquarian niece. Of course, we’d much rather have never used their services but we needed them and they were there.

Sitting with these organizations will never leave me.

May they be happy, may the be healthy, may they safe, may they live with ease.

It was a very confusing week.

This was my first vacation in over a year and I needed it. I could feel the edges just starting to get a little toasty so it came at the perfect time.

The toasty edges crisped up due to our heating system breaking the last week of December and my unimaginably brave, curious, creative and wildly smart husband decided to replace it himself. Go ahead and ask me if has any training in HVAC and the answer is “no”. It has not been without a crap ton of stress and also as you know……this winter weather.

And so, I had to cancel a bunch of things and that is not easy. Even down to tonight not being able to do the Full Moon Meditation because of snowmaggedon. It’s soooooo hard to do that.

And now, back to my trip. It was actually down to the wire whether we could even go, what with the new HVAC system freaking out. And then my daughter, Delia and her awesome bf saved our entire trip. And they were repaid by shoveling out from what I guess was a colossal storm. ☔️

Somehow, we left for Santa Fe. Another human being was murdered in our country. Paul and I are pretty sensitive so we wouldn’t ignore the suffering. And we had a job to do, really. To fill ourselves back up to the brim so that we can continue to be sensitive and not hardened. It’s in that softness where you find useful things like empathy, love, kindness, hope.

Soon, Im going to share some of the strange happenings I encountered on one of the most incredible trips of my life to New Mexico. May you be happy, healthy, safe and helpful.

This cannot be real. I’ve created my ultimate dream because of all of you that come a’ callin’. I knew you’d show up and I’d just have to be patient and then you came. And you keep on coming.

And the most magical thing is that I manifested a space so cozy and natural to work from. My home. This is why it’s soooo affordable and I get to spend oodles of time deeply truly and madly seeing your wild hearts.

Little secret time. When I was young I used to pretend I was the village shaman and I make potions to cure them. Ok when I was working in my lab bathroom at 7 yo shaving cream and mouth wash were added in Dixie Cups and given to the villagers (my cousins) for their different ailments. Didn’t really have access to botanicals but a girls gotta learn from some where. Why not in my parents bathroom in Inwood at 5000 Broadway.
