Need help with housing? The Delaware Apartment Association Apartment Angels Program can help! The program helps Delaware individuals and families in financial need to get back on their feet by providing six months of free rent for those who are chosen. The program is for people who were good renters but faced hard times through no fault of their own.

SNAP benefit requirements have changed — and many neighbors are wondering what it means for them. With new rules in place, it’s completely understandable to feel unsure about eligibility or how to apply for assistance. Some folks worry the benefits won’t make a difference, while others don’t have easy access to a computer.

We’re here to help clear things up.

Economic Mobility Director Megan Zavala shares the biggest update: Adults 18–64 without a physical or mental disability and/or dependents under age 14 must now work, volunteer, or participate in SNAP Employment & Training programs for at least 80 hours per month — any combination counts.

Neighbors who must fulfill these new work requirements should have been notified in December by the Department of Health and Social Services. Here’s a link to the state’s website with all of the details: - https://dhss.delaware.gov/dss/snapalert/

It’s important to update your case manager with current information, too.

If you’re unsure what you need or how to get started, the Food Bank’s Benefits Outreach team is ready to help. They can help submit required documentation, complete applications, assist with renewals, and answer your questions.

The CARE Card is a rewards program for AmeriHealth Caritas Delaware members. You can earn rewards when you complete healthy activities such as preventative screenings.

Your rewards are loaded onto a CARE Card, which works like a debit card. You can use it at stores like Walmart and CVS (and more) to buy everyday items. This includes hygiene products, baby supplies, food, over-the-counter medicines, and more.
