Sometimes the smallest moments shared at a service become the ones that bring the biggest smiles. ❤️

During Virgil Schlueter’s service, the minister (who also serves as part of our team here at Colwell Memorial Home) shared a memory about Virgil “riding a mule.”

As you can imagine, a few of us pictured a four-legged mule… 🐴

But as it turns out, Virgil wasn’t riding that kind of mule — he was cruising in his side-by-side! 😊

The family was kind enough to share this photo with us, and we couldn’t help but smile. It’s such a perfect reminder of how stories, even when slightly misunderstood, still capture the spirit of the person we’re remembering.

Virgil’s life was full of simple joys, a little humor, and moments worth sharing — just like this one.

Thank you to the family for allowing us to share this memory. 💙

Most importantly, stay in close contact with your hospice team. They can help you create a clear plan and guide you through what to do, even in unexpected situations.

A little preparation can bring peace of mind when it matters most.

Do funeral directors talk to the people in their care?

In a way, yes. Not expecting a response, but offering calm, respectful words while guiding the process. Sometimes it’s even lighthearted, just helping things go as smoothly as possible.

At the end of the day, it’s about creating a peaceful, respectful environment… and sometimes even bringing a little bit of warmth and humanity into the room.

For the families we have walked beside—those carrying grief a little heavier this season—we hold space for you today. While the world celebrates renewal, we know that holidays can also highlight the absence of those we love most.

Yet Easter gently whispers a promise…

Thinking about donating your body to science?

It’s a meaningful choice, but acceptance isn’t always guaranteed, even if you pre-register. If accepted, the donation may be used for research before cremation, with ashes often returned to the family.
