The Small But Mighty Subscapularis
You know that muscle I’m always trying to get to under your arm. You either hate it or you love it, but it is so helpful!
The subscapularis lives under your shoulder blade and most people never think about it or they didn’t know they had a muscle there.
It’s responsible for: Rotating your arm, stabilizing your shoulder, helping you lift, reach, and push.
When it’s tight: Raising your arm feels stiff. Shoulder pain increases. Sleep positions hurt and mobility drops.
Why massage helps: Because the muscle is hidden under the scapula, it doesn’t get stretched well. Massage frees up the tissue so the shoulder can move correctly again.
This is one of those “I didn’t know THAT was causing the problem!” muscles.
