If you are a young adult and nervous about your first Pap smear, please take a moment to read this first. 💗

The bottom line is simple. Pap smears save lives.

They are a quick and routine exam, but one of the most powerful ways to protect your long-term health.

What does “Pap smear” stand for?
It is short for Papanicolaou smear, a screening test used to check for abnormal cervical cells that could develop into cervical cancer if left untreated.

Why is that important? Because Pap smears help catch these changes early, often before there are any symptoms and long before anything becomes serious. Early detection truly changes everything.

We recommend continuing with annual wellness visits. Your provider will guide you on how often you need screening based on your personal health history and risk factors.

If you think it may be time to schedule your first Pap smear, or you may be due for your annual visit, call (409) 899-1499 to make your appointment.

To make the most of your visit with our highly qualified and compassionate providers, bring a list of questions or concerns. We are here to support you every step of the way. 💬

HPV, or human papillomavirus, is a very common virus that affects both women and men. In fact, nearly 8 out of 10 people will be exposed to HPV at some point in their lives, often without ever knowing it. 📊

Most HPV infections go away on their own without causing symptoms. However, some high-risk types can lead to health concerns such as cervical cancer and other gynecologic conditions if left undetected. 🎗️

HPV is spread through intimate skin-to-skin contact. While condoms can lower the risk, they do not fully prevent transmission.

The HPV vaccine is a safe and effective way to reduce the risk of HPV-related cancers and is recommended for preteens, teens, and many adults. 💉 Routine screenings like Pap tests play an important role in detecting cervical changes early, before they become serious. 🩺

Understanding HPV is an important step in protecting your long-term health. 💛 If you have questions about vaccination, screening, or prevention, your OB/GYN can help guide you.
