Peer support is the process of giving encouragement or assistance to overcome a challenge in life by someone with lived experience. Peer workers can be people who experience the challenges themselves, or family members with loved ones who experienced such challenges and use their lived experience to guide others through the process of change.

March is Intellectual Developmental Disabilities (IDD) Awareness Month!

About 1 in 6 children in the U.S. have a developmental disability. People with developmental disabilities are working, going to school, volunteering, and contributing to their communities—just like all of us.

Celebrating IDD Awareness Month 🌟

This March, as we honor Intellectual and Developmental Disability Awareness Month, Board Chair, Frank Coffin reflects on his sister’s journey with Spindletop Center.

"Their support helped her thrive, and I’m grateful for their life-changing work. As Board Chair, I’m proud of Spindletop's dedication to empowering those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as the many other supports they offer and clients they serve. Let’s celebrate their achievements and support their efforts!" 💙

February was full of celebration as we recognized both Mardi Gras and Black History Month! Our clients in IDD services wrapped up the month with a festive parade and party last week, bringing lots of color, music, and smiles to the occasion.

Throughout February, our staff and clients also had the honor of presenting several awards and heartfelt thank-yous to members of our community who have been incredible friends and supporters of our mission. We are truly grateful for the kindness, encouragement, and continued support shown to our clients as it makes a meaningful difference in their lives every single day. ❤️
