🎓 Honoring excellence in research!

Harvest Prater, 2025 David J. Beck Fellow, traveled to Chicago this past summer for her fellowship at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab — U.S. News and World Report’s #1 Ranked Rehabilitation Hospital. There, she explored innovative diagnostic tools in aphasia service provision—supporting a randomized controlled trial on naming and oral reading assessment practices. Her work reflects the heart of Speech and Hearing Sciences: focus, empathy, excellence, and impact.

• Abigail Proctor presented and 𝘄𝗼𝗻 the BEST POSTER award for her research, “The Role of Cochlear Implant-Hearing Aid Peformance Disparity in Bimodal Benefit: A Controlled SNR Study.”
• Harvest Prater presented her research, “Bridging Disciplines: Integrating Interprofessional into Modern Healthcare Education.”

• Sarah Short won the URG grant for her research proposal, “Deaf Mentorship for Speech-Language Pathology Patients: Effectiveness and Availability."
• Harvest Prater won the URG grant for her research proposal, “Phonemic Clinical Video Assessment: Strategies in Undergraduate SLP Education.”
• Mary Wernig won the URG grant for her research proposal, “Supporting Roles: Perspectives of Neurotypical Peers’ Parents in and Inclusive Theater Program.”
