Georgia Beatrice Minter was born June 10, 1934, to James Minter and Marinda Huff in Beaumont, Texas. Georgia attended public schools in Beaumont, TX. and graduated from Charlton Pollard High School. She also attended Cosmetology School at Lamar Tech in Beaumont, Texas. Georgia was raised in the holiness church and was saved at the early age of 14 in a tent revival under the leadership of Rev. Fehl.
On June 26, 1954, Georgia Minter was wed to Isaac Davis. To this union eight children were born four boys and four girls. They were married 55 years until his passing on August 26, 2009. She was primarily a homemaker and would also do private housekeeping work for various doctors. Mother Georgia Davis faithfully served at various churches over the years: Harris Temple Holiness Church in Beaumont, TX. under the leadership of Rev. Oscar L. Harris; Helbig Chapel C.O.G.I.C. in Beaumont, TX. under the leadership of Pastor J. M. Boulden; Israel Temple C.O.G.I.C. in Nome, Texas under the leadership of Pastor Alfred White; and Mason Memorial C.O.G.I.C. in Beaumont, Texas under the leadership of Pastor Gary L. Cantue. Mother Davis faithfully served at the Mason Memorial church until the Lord led her to go help her son-in-law, Pastor H. C. Dent at the Linson Street C.O.G.I.C., which has since been renamed Temple of Praise C.O.G.I.C.
Mother Georgia Davis influenced the church's ministry throughout the years with her outstanding service. Mother Davis loved gatherings and enjoyed cookouts with the saints after church such as wiener roast on the grounds of the church to bring both the youth and the older saints together in fellowship. She organized many dinner sales, started Vacation Bible School, was a choir member, served as church secretary, and as youth helper. She put on fashion and hat style shows, king and queen contest. She was a lover of people, always giving from her heart and did not mind doing it. Thus, she became instrumental in organizing fundraisers to sponsor bus trips for the youth to travel to Memphis for church conventions. Her love for people also lead her to do mission work visiting nursing homes, purchasing and bringing gifts at Christmas time to the sick and shut in. She would always say, "That's why I'm so blessed - because I'm a giver"! She served in Beaumont Northern District Women's Dept. on the Advisory Board, Mother's Board, and hospitality. For the past 24 years, she has served at Temple of Praise C.O.G.I.C. In addition to her previous accolades, she served as Pastor's Aide President, she requested that Pastor Dent would allow the women in the church to serve on 3rd Sunday mornings, so the ladies could showcase their talents, and she faithfully attended Tuesday and Friday morning prayer. Mother Davis served as the Church Mother of Temple of Praise for the last 13 years.
Mother Davis had a saying "I might be hopping, but I'm not stopping." Mother Davis loved to pray and as faithful prayer warrior, even in her 90's, she started a prayer line called "Women of Wisdom" for women ages seventy and up and had regular prayer on the conference line with her prayer warriors twice a month. Even though her health failed, the members of the prayer line have remained committed to keeping that prayer line active even as of today.
Mother Georgia Davis remained faithful until the Lord called her home on Thursday, October 23, 2025. Georgia was a great mother to her children and affectionately called "Momo" by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her sons-in-law were her sons, and her daughters-in-law were her daughters. Her love of feeding people was undeniable. She loved to cook and invite her family and other saints over for lunch, especially on Sundays.
Georgia was preceded in death by her father, James Minter and mother, Marinda Huff-Barclay, her husband, Isaac Davis, her oldest daughter, Iras Johnson, daughter-in-law, Senora Davis, six brothers and three sisters.
She leaves to cherish her memory her four sons: Michael Davis (Anisha) of Columbus, Ohio, Milton Davis, Elder Isaac D. Davis (Veronica) and Deacon Joseph Patrick Davis of Beaumont, Texas; three daughters; Lynette Swain (Min. Wayne Swain) of Lorena, Texas, Gwindelon Dent (Pastor Harmon Dent) and O'Freda L.
