President of Board Vacancy Announcement
The Beaver Island Rural Health Center Board of Directors invites applications and nominations to serve as director and Board President effective January 1, 2027.
The nine-member board seeks to fill one director position. That person will also serve as board president. Board terms are three years. Directors are not compensated. The BIRHC Board meets every third month in addition to 2-3 special meetings. The president is expected to attend meetings in person.
The candidate should be a collaborator who will champion the cause of the Health Center and be willing to contribute their time and talents to leading the Board. Some essential duties expected of the President include:
-Communicate with all board members on a regular basis to ensure they are aware of Health Center news, facts affecting upcoming board decisions, and committee responsibilities.
-Plan and conduct all board meetings in person.
-Lead, plan, and track fundraising efforts to solicit donations.
-Be involved in grant applications to any organization with potential to fund the Health Center.
-Be a spokesperson for the BIRHC Board of Directors in one-on-one and group interactions.
-Be the contact person and communicator with Island government officials, off Island government representatives and the leaders of organizations with which the Health Center partners, including occasional travel off Island to meet with these representatives and leaders.
-With the support of board committees and officers, and the BIRHC Managing Director, oversee and plan for the short and long-term financial health of the Health Center.
-With support from the Managing Director and board committees, oversee BIRHC policy and legal compliance.
-Be the liaison between the Board and the Managing Director.
Board members are not required to have a medical background but preferably can contribute expertise, guidance, and dedication in areas that strengthen the Health Center’s ability and capacity to pursue its mission.
The Board is responsible for overseeing the fulfillment of the organization’s mission, strategic planning, financial oversight, fundraising and contributing to organizational growth through dedicated committees and teamwork.
