Report from the Direct Primary Care Ohio 10th Unsummit in Dublin: We were a great group of celebrants, sharing our knowledge about medical practice and direct pay strategies, honing in on the best path for each person there to Live The Dream, mostly via a Direct Primary Care practice. Some are Direct Family Care and some are Direct Pediatric Care and we even had Direct Internal Medicine Care and Med-Peds specialists, along with some very enthusiastic medical students from UC (in July), OSU (and with business oriented sister), NEOMED and Case Western. Baylor, the dog in the forefront of the photo was our first "Direct Care Dog". Dr. Lily White who started her DPC practice in Rocky River in the fall of 2023 and Dr. Pat Jonas (Neighborly Family Medicine since 2012) planned and organized the event this year as a transition to a larger planning committee next year (third Saturday in February). Larry Bauer, MSW, MEd was a remote speaker who along with Pat Jonas, MED have been involved in all ten DPC Ohio Unsummits. An Internal Medicine Resident who will do DPC around Dayton and an interested pulmonary physician rounded out the learners with online attendance.
Hosts again were the Open Arms Health Clinic in Bellbrook and The Center for Innovation in Family and Community Health

Mark your calendars for the 10th DPC Ohio Unsummit on Saturday, February 17th, 2024 in Dublin, Ohio again. DPC is growing in Ohio.

Dialogue in, through and sponsored by DPC practices is an ongoing strength of the practice model. Independent practices allow relationship-based care to mature over time, enhancing quality of life as defined by the participants.
Deeper dialogue, involving heartfelt sharing, allows humans to be human and become more spiritually sensitive humans, enhancing meaning in their lives.

The Arts play an important role in exploration and dialogue: "The dominating influence that spawned the arts was a need to impose order on the confusion caused by intelligence"..E. O. Wilson in Consilience.
DPC practices have more time to allow patients and physicians and other practitioners to be genuine in their sharing about values, goals and dreams that are important elements of decision making in the clinical encounter and beyond. We and our patients have the time to clarify meaning for ourselves and our patients. Dialogue is one of the keys. We can get even better.
Finding meaning after the pandemic is a DPC role that we'll do well.

Much in the current medical care model is failing. Moral Injury abounds. Moral leadership seems to be lacking. Informed consent was bludgeoned during the pandemic. We need to innovate in the moral leadership and human directions to redefine realistic health care. DPC physicians may innovate further into moral leadership roles in practice, community and health care.
The Center for Innovation in Family and Community Health will be gearing up to meet the challenge.
The Ohio DPC Unsummit on February 17, 2024 will feature some re-direction and re-affirming of morally sensitive Human Centered Health Care and the Human Centered Health Home.
