Every new patient joining our practice tends to ask how out-of-network clinics function. Generally speaking, an out-of-network provider is one who does not accept or does not have a contract with a patient's health insurance company. Certain practices with a holistic care structure, like ours, may not accept any insurance plans. When you see these kinds of providers, lab orders and prescriptions are still processed through your insurance coverage. Patients actively seek (and want to pay out of pocket for) out-of-network physicians who provide a deeper level of medical thoroughness, offer willingness to follow-up, and make adjustments to short/long-term treatment.

These spots are harmless, but can be cosmetically distressing. Treatments range from topical to oral Vitamin A products.

Most people get scratches on the skin either from a pencil/pen or a fingernail and do not give such injuries a second thought. However, in some individuals, the same scratches become red, swollen, and itchy—these symptoms can last for several hours. This reaction is similar to hives, but happens when the skin is scratched or constricted. Most patients take these issues in stride, but when quality of life is affected, there are antihistamine treatments that can help.

Herpes simplex is caused by a virus (HSV1 and HSV2) which can be spread by sexual contact or saliva exchange. Something as simple as sharing a drink can spread the virus. Signs of an initial infection would include flu-like symptoms with breakout of painful blisters in groups with surrounding redness. Common locations for these lesions are in the mouth and genitalia. Treatment ranges from topical cortisone to oral antivirals but the virus may also resolve on its own. The virus, however, can be reactivated by stress, infection, or re-exposure then presenting itself as a burning/tingling sensation preceding new blisters. Individuals with frequent recurrences of herpes may take oral antivirals preemptively.
