Hope, by definition, “is the feeling of desire or will for something to happen.” A simple feeling can seem small and sometimes meaningless, but many people don’t know that having hope and staying positive can actually vastly improve overall well-being and shield the brain from anxiety during hard times.

Hope actually triggers positive problem-solving abilities, pushing individuals to find creative solutions to their problems instead of being paralyzed by anxious fear.

Hope can also improve one's sense of control and forward outlook. Illness can leave someone feeling powerless in their everyday life, and being able to control your thought process can help to reduce feelings of doubt and unease.

Many guests who visit us at Renewal walk through our doors with feelings of worry with them. Most are dealing with what feels like uphill health battles that positivity and hope are overshadowed by fear and negativity. Thankfully, they ease into our award-winning center for some next-level personalized caring and therapy modalities that build back resilience, hope and bodily comfort.

A lot of people who have experienced hardship may resonate with this quote. They can relate because the path to healing is often not a “soft grass” experience, nor cushioned, but can be rocky and not linear. Healing can sometimes be arduous or slow-going, take hard work, consistency, dedication, courage, and often requires mental or physical strength to push through. But benchmarks of recovery can feel calming, renewing and comfortable, like feeling the sun on your skin and sitting with the knowledge that you’ve done something incredible and most worthwhile—that you’ve succeeded, you overcame, you've triumphed! And that is a wonderful thing to carry forward and motivate you to continue towards even greater health and well-being.

Ruth Westmeyer was a renowned therapist, who, after fleeing N**i Germany, joined the army in Israel before living in many different places across Europe. She later moved to the states to further her education after attending school in Paris, and attended the New School and then Columbia University. She became a talk show host, with her warmth and comedic bits catching the attention of people all over the states. Her experiences truly prove how this quote came to be, because it was her own path that was rough.

❝I recently had the pleasure of visiting Renewal Care Wellness and was thoroughly impressed by the caring and kind nature of the owners, Amber and Andy. Having personally experienced Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) for 10 consecutive days to manage PMR back in November 2017, I am familiar with its benefits. My naturopath recommended it to help with my elevated CO2 levels, and I'm glad I found Renewal Care Wellness.

Their website is as welcoming and informative as Amber and Andy's in-person. As someone with claustrophobia, I was relieved to discover they offer two types of chambers, making me feel much more comfortable during the sessions.

Additionally, they offer various membership options catering to different needs. I was also impressed by their background and dedication to making this their career path. It's clear they are passionate about what they do, and we are incredibly fortunate to have them in our community.

I also want to share that as a swimmer, I often experienced shortness of breath and wheezing, which was very concerning, especially since my inhaler didn't help. Finding a connection to our spirit, or rekindling a reconnection, can be done in many different ways, but one well-known way that stands above the rest is through the practice of meditation. Meditation relaxes both the mind and body, helping to relieve stress and anxiety, while also improving focus. Meditation can even calm inflammation that may be impacting your bodily systems.

Bin He, a researcher from Carnegie Mellon University, did a study of Tibetan monks who ranged from having five to 35 years of experience with mediating. He concluded from his study that, “It seems the longer you do meditation, the better your brain will be at self-regulation.” He added, “You don’t have to consume as much energy at rest and you can more easily get yourself into a more relaxed state.”

Furthermore, a neuropsychologist at the University of Oregon found that after only a few weeks of incorporating a mediation practice in their routine, an act that moves our brainwave activity into the theta brainwave state, subject brains showed higher levels of connectivity between different lobes. The studied brains showed that they were literally moving faster, even within this lowered stress environment.

All in all, meditation is a powerful healing practice that we have access to 24/7 because it’s a practice that is inside each of us! Building the foundation of your connection to nature can start small. Keep it simple by going for a walk in your neighborhood, simply sit on your doorstep in silence, or go for a picnic at a local park. Even take off your shoes in a clean bit of grass, sand or soil to practice barefoot grounding. Remember to focus on listening and observing the nature around you. This helps to relax your mind as you practice mindfulness by paying attention to things in the present moment. Even small acts like these can help you release stress and reconnect to our Earth and begin reaping some of the many healing benefits our natural environment has to offer.

We have become evermore so reliant on having to have fancy tools, technology and calming apps, supplements or medications to heal ourselves that we forget that we can also incorporate powerful practices outdoors when it comes to our health.
