Postpartum is messy. Adjusting to a new member of the family that demands your undivided attention pretty much 24/7 is HARD. If you’re struggling with it, you’re not alone, you’re not a bad parent, it’s just a really challenging phase.

I’m here to be your permission slip. Let me make it perfectly clear that taking care of yourself during this period needs to be a priority. Like a top-tier, non-negotiable priority. How you take care of yourself and how you ask others to take care of you during the postpartum period sets the tone for how you’ll move forward into parenthood.

Reality vs. my vision for moms everywhere ➡️ 🌈 ✨

A few days late but I’ve been thinking about how to express my boundless love and appreciation for everything mothers do, how you are the thread that holds us all together. Mothers are the fiercest, softest, most astonishingly loving and brave people I know. And y’all deserve more than a phone call and some flowers.

You deserve a culture that values you. Values you as the foundation of generations to come. Values you for the people you are and not just the children you bear. This is why, to me, birthwork is inextricably activism. Birthwork is political. Hell, motherhood is political. Mamas deserve more. I’m working on doing my part one family at a time.

💥 Develop a safe word! Choose a silly word like "giraffe" or "pencil sharpener" - something that's unlikely to come up during labor - to signify that circumstances have changed, and you'd like to veer away from your original birth plan. (You're allowed to change your mind, you know!)

💖 Learn your your & your partner's love language! What makes you feel loved and safe? What makes your partner feel loved, safe, and included?

🗣 Practice (early and often) speaking up for what you really want this experience to look like and then work together to develop a plan that works for BOTH of you.

Does your birth plan include a contingency plan for what happens if something unexpected arises? 😳

I want you to plan for the birth of your wildest dreams 🔥
I want you to meditate on it, dream as big as you can, plan for fairy lights and flowers and fireworks in the sky if that's what lights you up ✨🧚🏼

But I want you to be prepared if things don't go according to plan, too.

Planning for what you'd like to happen if a cesarean becomes necessary is very important. 📝

❌ It doesn't mean you're jinxing your chances at a vaginal delivery.
✅ It means you're preparing for all possible outcomes.
✅ It means you'll feel less frazzled and panicked.
✅ It means you'll know what your options are BEFORE you're being rolled into the OR.

From my experience, clients who have a contingency plan in place feel far more confident going in to birth, because they know that whatever happens - they've come prepared with the knowledge and tools they need to rock their experience. 💪🏼💥
