Sheriff Frank Priddy and Chief Deputy Frankie Shelton are proud to announce that the “You Are Not Alone” Outreach will be coming to Oak Hill in April.

We would like to extend our appreciation to Oak Hill Mayor Charles Briscoe for reaching out to Sgt. B.J. Adkins about hosting the outreach event at the Oak Hill Amphitheater on April 17th from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Sgt. B.J. Adkins stated:

“I would personally like to thank Mayor Briscoe for the invitation and for partnering with us to bring the outreach to Oak Hill. We would also like to thank Chief Whisman of the Oak Hill Police Department for having an officer present during the event. Several resources from surrounding counties have already reached out and expressed interest in being part of this outreach.

Our outreach team, along with several organizations, peer specialists, volunteers, and others, will be there to provide resources and assistance to those in need on the spot. No questions. No judgment — just help. Whether someone is struggling with substance abuse, mental health challenges, homelessness, or other difficulties, we will continue to show up as one and help the next person in need.

When we come together, we make West Virginia stronger.”

Today, Sheriff Frank Priddy, Chief Deputy Frankie Shelton, and the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office recognize National Autism Awareness Day.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental condition that affects how individuals communicate, interact, and experience the world around them. Every person with autism is different. Some may be highly verbal and independent, while others may need additional support. What matters most is understanding that autism is not a limitation of worth or potential. It is a different way of processing the world.

Today is not only about awareness, but also about acceptance and understanding. Taking the time to recognize and respect those differences helps build stronger, safer communities for everyone.

For law enforcement, awareness, acceptance, and understanding are critical. Encounters with individuals on the autism spectrum may look different. Individuals may avoid eye contact, may not respond to commands right away, or may become overwhelmed by lights, sounds, or stressful situations. Understanding these differences allows deputies to respond with patience, compassion, and care.

Deputies with the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office receive training through the West Virginia Autism Training Center at Marshall University to help recognize these needs.

The Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office also offers a voluntary Special Needs Registry. This program allows families to share helpful information, such as communication preferences, triggers, or medical needs, so deputies can better assist during emergencies or interactions.

For more information about the registry or how to participate, please visit www.raleighcountysheriff.com
or contact Eric Jourdan at 304-255-9300 ext. 2171, and please leave a message and he will get back to you as soon as possible.

FMRS Health Systems, Inc.

FMRS Health Systems, Inc. was originally organized as a comprehensive mental health center on April 14, 1969. Initially known as FMRS Mental Health Council, the center changed its name in 2001 to more appropriately capture the broad array of services provided in the four counties where it focuses its service delivery. FMRS has offices in Raleigh County, Fayette County, Summers County and Monroe County. Specialized programs are offered to meet the needs of children and adults experiencing emotional, behavioral, developmental or substance abuse problems. Our goal is to assist people in identifying and addressing problems early in an effort to prevent more serious difficulties from occurring. Over the years, the manner in which the services are provided has changed to mirror advances in the field, but the mission remains the same.

Our Mission is to serve individuals, families, and communities through prevention, treatment and recovery services, ensuring that help today leads to a better tomorrow.

FMRS Health Systems fulfills our mission by partnering with individuals in their journeys to find mental and physical wellness.

We are committed to the development of highly trained, culturally competent staff who specialize in helping individuals:
